Just a small correction, DQ owns two of these.

The Hilux Surf in DQ's collection is NL registered while the Hilux Pick-up had embassy plates IIRC.

One thing you notice in his interviews is that most journos pop this question in, 'What is your dream car?'

Time and again his face looks confused, it's like he wants them to understand when one is putting together a collection it is difficult to pin point on a single dream car. I think journalists who do their home work see that he likes his cars and add this simplistic question to the questionnaire, expecting a Rolls Royce or Ferrari as an answer. If I recall only once when pushed he mumbled that he would like to source an E type. Very much a car geek.

The W212 Mercedes E Class that they bought sometime in 2012 is registered in PY and not in KL. About the SLS AMG, it still wears CH registration as he bought it pre-owned from there. Nowadays, the W212 is being used at Chennai along with his GT3 RS, Supra, Mini and LCs.

Just checked the regn details of both the cars out of curiosity. The E class is regd in someone else name, so probably its sold. The SLS is still in the name of Big Boy Toyz.

Some back of the envelope calculations - he has 30 vehicles. He is a busy actor and is probably out on location shoots 9 months of the year - probably more.

This gives him 3 months to drive the 30 cars or 3 days in a year per car. Add to this he may have favourite cars which he may drive more often. This would make certain cars being driven only one day in a year.

Makes sense if you are looking at them from a collectors point of view rather than cars to be driven and enjoyed. Or maybe, it's a mix of both? Either way, having a car and not being able to drive it enough would leave you with a feeling you aren't doing justice to the car and that wouldn't go down well with an enthusiast. It's different with a collector - he doesn't need to drive them.

Repetitive driving is what gets you to understand a car and build a connect with it and it's the emotional connect that gets you to deeply enjoy a car.

More cars start playing on your mind "Oh shucks, I haven't driven this for 5 months" and that makes you unhappy.

This is one situation where less actually make you more happy or as they say, less is more.

I think a lot of times on shoots he could get his favourites trucked to wherever he is - if he's shooting inside India I don't think that's too much of an issue. But yes, the problem with having a career that you care about and a large dream garage is this - if you can call it a problem! I expect as his collection matures, he will start to trim it to include only the most joyous ones. He's currently bulking before shredding.

Buddy, what's with that watch?! Please, please, not the HBB! As a former victim myself, I am aghast that a gentleman with such fine taste in vandis has fallen prey to one of these. I'm sure the collection extends to ROs, Speedys and Daytonas, which are in fine step with the garage.

9 months of shooting doesn't really mean he isn't driving for those 9 months. He would always have one (or more) of his cars with him. And, that's not even restricted to the new Range Rovers and Porsches. He even drives his old TLCs and Volvo to locations.

I’m quite sure that they still owns the E-Class. They brought it back to Kochi few months ago and added crossbar and replaced the stock alloys with aftermarket ones. Also, I’ve seen some recent pics of the car in Instagram.

Most BBT cars usually come with a buyback scheme where if you use em for a year within a set number of kms they'll buy the car back with a pre-determined percentage in depreciation. I've seen a lot of owners using this facility to rotate through cars, that's the reason most of them are registered with them to keep the number of owners low.

Talking of this car in particular, if it wasn't for the lockdown, the car would've been KL regd by now. They were on it.

If you see the location of the cars - it is quite spread out over Kochi & Chennai. I don't think the cars will be ever too far from his shooting locations to be neglected for that long a time.

Very nice to see his collection growing by the day. I hope he has a in house team which can take care of all his vehicles. Team has to be really good.

Too many cars is difficult to maintain even for people who have funds & team.
