Porsche 911 GT2 RS launched in India at Rs. 3.88 crore

Porsche has launched the 911 GT2 RS in India for Rs 3.88 crore (ex-showroom).

The 911 GT2 RS is lighter than the standard car through the extensive use of carbon-fibre for the roof and various other body parts and magnesium wheels. Also the new titanium exhaust system is stated to be about seven kilograms lighter. The optional weight-trimming Weissach package shaves off an additional 18 kilograms.

The car gets active suspension management and rear-axle steering along with Porsche's torque vectoring which sends power to the wheel that needs more traction. It also gets Porsche Stability Management and carbon ceramic brakes as standard.

Powered by a 3.8-litre, flat-six twin-turbocharged engine that generates 700 horsepower and 750Nm of torque mated to the seven-speed dual-clutch PDK, it is the fastest and most powerful road legal 911 that Porche has built. The vehicle is capable of sprinting from 0-100kmph in 2.8 seconds to achieve a top speed of 340kmph.

The car set a lap time of 6:47.3 around the Nürburgring Nordschleife earlier this year to take the production-car record almost 10 seconds quicker than the 918 Spyder.

Overkill for India. But if you gotta have, you gotta have. I hear two of these are going to the biggest garages in Bangalore, and since the Bangalore cars see the track once in a while, they will not be garage queens.

I'd rather have one of those Carrera Ts though. They are like mini-Turbos anyway.

Just a question..does this come with an optional manual transmission like the earlier iteration which was called the widow-maker in some circles?

No manuals anymore. Not even as an option. I can think of only one reason they are doing no manuals, percentage of manual variant buyers has become from small to negligible.

Re: Porsche 911 GT2 RS launched in India at Rs. 3.88 crore

I think they have taken their focus completely towards track and timing with the GT2 RS. I understand there is no such thing as too much horsepower, but this one is pure numbers game.

As a Porsche fan, I would say if fun to drive is the criterion, GT3 with a 6-speed manual with 500 horses of NA-power from a 4.0 flat-six revving up to 9,000 RPM. Call me old fashioned. Oh, costs a crore and half lesser too.

EDIT:

They do, not the RS variant though in the GT3.

Re: Porsche 911 GT2 RS launched in India at Rs. 3.88 crore

I thought several of the optional features mentioned in the screenshot above were standard on the GT3 in India. Ceramic brakes and front axle lift system are a must for the GT3 and certainly even more for the GT2.

The front axel lift system is the quickest I have ever seen, it almost instantly raises the front up within 3 seconds. Most other car with air suspension take over 30 seconds.

Front axle lift isn't standard on any 911 models not even the GT2 RS. PCCB's only comes with the Turbo S and GT2 RS as standard. Not even on the GT3 RS. Just Porsche things. They should have added that to the GT cars than Turbo S which would see no or very little time on tracks.

This car makes a great buy. I am mot sure what the production numbers would be but I assume that the production would be very limited, that coupled with 911 fans and the world record lap time would make this a future classic.

Re: Porsche 911 GT2 RS launched in India at Rs. 3.88 crore

So it seems like the first GT2 RS is going to the famous Bren Garage in BLR. If its true then it will join the only 911R and Techart GT Street R in the country.

Yes indeed. The GT2RS is part of the Bren Garage. The car left for its home soon after the launch in Mumbai.

While I get this guys passion for track cars, I think 4 track focused Porsches is a bit of an overkill.
Besides he also has a 458 Speciale and AMG GTR. Thats a total of 6 track cars.
Another 2 sports cars - Aston and a Lambo.

6 track focused sports cars in India makes no sense, one can add more variety into the mix. However, to each his own - not my circus, not my monkeys

I do agree that 4 track focused Porsches are an overkill in India.

However, there's a business angle to it too. If he did not build up a collection of regular Porsches, he would not have got an allocation for the Cayman GT4 forget even more special ones like the 911R or GT2RS. Such collections help ensure you keep getting invited to buy the latest limited editions. I am not sure of how values of these cars work in India, but globally, such cars seldom lose money and mostly trade at good premiums. Buying a car, using it well and selling it at a premium sounds like a win-win to me Then of course comes the coveted title of having the biggest Porsche collection in India and the bragging rights that come with it

Re: Porsche 911 GT2 RS launched in India at Rs. 3.88 crore

Any idea about the allocation for India?
And read on ET that it is already sold-out any truth?

BTW got confused and went on to update my Porsche knowledge by checking their website.
Here is the list of 911 models Porsche makes:-

911 Carrera
911 Carrera S
911 Carrera Cabriolet
911 Carrera S Cabriolet
911 Carrera 4
911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet
911 Carrera 4S
911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet
911 Carrera T
911 Targa 4
911 Targa 4S
911 Turbo
911 Turbo S
911 Turbo Cabriolet
911 Turbo S Cabriolet
911 Turbo S Exclusive Series
911 Carrera GTS
911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet
911 Carrera 4 GTS
911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet
911 Targa 4 GTS
911 GT3
911 GT3 RS
911 GT2 RS

In total 24 variants of 911 and all of them available in India (as per the website).
This is excluding the 50th anniversary and other 'special special' editions they release.

Closed the website tab by concluding hopefully I'll be able to afford at least one variant in the future.

That's a big leap from the GT2 RS allocation which was just one unit if i'm not wrong.

I doubt this business angle. I don’t think he will be able to sell these for a premium in India.
