It's not California plates. It is old Bangalore registration. The car is owned by a friend of mine.

Is it even legal to ply on public roads (for a regular joe unlike say, a consulate car)!

Yep! Absolutely legal for a Dubai registered car to drive here on carnet. System works in such a way that if the owner has a temporary address change or wants to bring over a car to India and has a residence in the country, They are completely free to do so for 12 months (of course, by paying the legal taxes.)

Yes it's a kit, I saw the car for sale on instagram.

Saw this a couple of days back in Kochi. The joy of seeing this iconic car and that too in the same shade as the farewell scene from F&F was pure bliss
