Not sure where to put this, so adding it to the latest post I could find.

On the lookout for a 'vert of coupe e46 M3. As the years go by it has become extremely rare and the few that do are not considering letting it go.

Is setting a budget of approximately 15 lakhs for a good example ridiculous? Obviously, it will need its own preventative maintenance fund running at all times separately. I'm guessing setting aside 1/4 of the value of the car would be a good start.

Well, with these cars, you need patience..finding one, finding one in a good condition, finding one in a good condition which is up for sale.At a reasonable (to you) price. Get the drift?

With these beauties, never settle for a compromise.By compromise I mean a lesser power variant, 4 doors instead of a coupe, a different colour, etc. The feel-good of a cost saving on such a compromise would last at max for a year, by when you'll get back to your old yearning and end up spending a higher incremental amount on the upgrade. (loss-on-sale of the stop-gap not-so-special variant and a price appreciation in the variant you originally yearned for).

Coming to a more important point, the right car will command premium and will probably never hit online classifieds(if they do, they are snapped up in a couple of days).However, if you must absolutely have one, put word out among luxury car brokers, the ones who have been in the business for 10-15 years. There are dealers in Bombay, at least the old exotic car dealers who work by networking with their clients. This is where they still trump over online classifieds.Have the moolah?They'll put you onto one.

I am not sure of pricng though as most deals are discrete.For your reference, there was a manual old gen Audi TT coupe up for sale at 8.50 last month. I see another model of the same gen now advertised for 13.50.All these on Olx Mumbai. There is an old gen manual convertible BW Z3 (removable top) previously belonging to Adanis up for sale for the past 5-6 months at 17. Pricing varies car to car and the demand for the model.

I have actually followed (nee stalked) a couple of my prospective pre-owned cars and bought them when the pricing was reasonable to me.

Oh yes of course. Thanks for the inputs octane. I have my heart set on the e46 M3 for a long time now. It's gonna be a long and painful wait as 90% of those that have the car are actual collectors - those that would be in good shape anyway - and wouldn't really want to let go of it. I have considered getting a good example imported but the hassle is way too much at this stage. Nevertheless, will keep looking and have contacted a few dealers that have some reach in Mumbai and Delhi. Or will have to keep saving till the e92 is within reach - which would be another decade from now

It is one of the most immaculately maintained E92 in Mumbai and the owner really loves her to bits!
