The Beetle deisgn was spearheaded by Adolf Hiller in the 30s to make transport available to the common man.Hence the car was designed to be crammed.
Rumors said that the Beetle was originally designed for conversion into a makeshift armored car in times of war.

Found this after lots of searching:

There is a similar one like the one in post 82 in my colony. Its yellow in colour. Also v12 had posted pics of a yellow bettle some time back, it has pics of many supercars which was taken at Bandra during a filmstar party.

I'm not a fan of the new Beetle really. It doesnt have the charm of the old bug. The old Beetle was a timeless design and stills turns my head when I see one on the road

The red one is the Beetle which was given away as prize by Indicar long time back

Spotted a white Beetle in Bangalore.

I was at Pizza Hut at Bashyam circle on my way back from Speedrun...Spotted this really nice white Beetle (RHD) '05 or '06 model with Sunroof pulling out of the gas station. Moved pretty quickly towards Palace Guttahalli...Could not take pics.

I have seen the white Beetle being driven by a lady in Malleswaram.

I prefer the old beetle anyday. I feel VW should not have made the new Beetle a front engined car... most Beetle purists will agree with me on this.

I am not sure when this changed as in '98- '99 when beetle was first re-introduced a friends wife in the US had picked up a ligth green TDI. It had a rear engine and I remember his kid sitting in the front dicky (for lack of a better word) when parked. I have'nt paid much attention after that.
