Earlier this month, BMW showcased the 8 Series Gran Coupe at the India Art Expo held in New Delhi. The car showcased was the 840i variant.



The 840i Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine producing 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. An all-wheel drive variant of the 840i is also available. 0-100 km/h time for the 840i Gran Coupe is said to be 5.2 seconds while that of the 840i xDrive Gran Coupe is said to be 4.9 seconds.

BMW has also listed the 8 Series Gran Coupe on the Indian website. The official launch date is not yet known.

What's up with the BMW designs. First was the grill, now they want to mess up the c pillar design. First impression, I felt like they got inspiration from an infinity or a Chevrolet.

That is a characteristic BMW design trait, known as the 'Hofmeister kink' and it's been seen in BMWs for quite some time now (from the 60s in fact).

BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, M8 reach dealership

The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and the M8 have reached a dealership in Mumbai.



The 8 Series Gran Coupe is said to be the 840i variant. It is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine producing 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. In March 2020, the BMW 840i Gran Coupe was showcased at the India Art Expo held in New Delhi.

The M8 is the high-performance version of the 8 Series. It is powered by a 4.4-litre, V8 engine that delivers 592 BHP and 750 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. 0-100 km/h time is said to be 3.3 seconds. In Competition spec, the M8 has 617 BHP and 750 Nm of torque.

Estimated launch price for M8 is around 2,3 Cr & the coupe 1,25 Cr. You can take any loadings on the M8 but on the coupe, one can choose only to a maximum of Rs 7,5 lac. The red one we see here is around 2,55 Cr & Grey Gand Coupe 1,32.

Could have done better on the prices.

The 8 series family looks really good and well proportioned and thankfully no huge grills! However the pricing is just way too off in my opinion.
Considering the coupe is priced at 1.25 (ex showroom), the Gran coupe, which I believe most of its potential clientele looks at will almost certainly cost over 1.5cr on the road. Isn't that atrocious pricing especially in these testing times? Also BMW's own 730ld with discounts will certainly fall in the same budget making a lot of potential buyers shift to it, then there is the 530d that accomplishes 90% of the gran coupe at 50% of the price.Even when considering the m8 which is a fantastic car every other aspect, it too fails spectacularly on the pricing front. At 2.5cr+ seriously what was BMW thinking?
A fairly well specced 911 beats it in many aspects such as an iconic timeless car,much more personalisation,road presence, resale value while costing lesser.

Guys, aren't the power figures of the regular variant kind of sad for this segment? A humble E350 or 530d diesel with a simple remap has almost the same horsepower, with a lot more torque.

Gran Coupe is with regular 40i - 6 cylinder petrol engine available on same cars like X5 & 740 Li. M8 is where you will get all the fun, 8 cylinder, 625 HP & AWD. Is it worth at over 50 % increase over an M5 will be the question? Beyond certain ultra HNI, I don’t see this going anywhere.

On the regular 8, since they have restricted the options to 7,5 lac, I am assuming they are using benefits of lower custom duty on vehicles costing less than 40 K USD. These lower-cost vehicles qualify for 60 % Custom duties unlike expensive cars where 100 % Duty applies. It’s specced very basic, leather and other standard features hardly justify the estimated launch prices. 7 series after discounts is a far better option unless someone is specifically looking for a stylish coupe.

It appears some from Mercedes CBU has joined BMW or they are following MB. Pointless launches if they keep the rates shared by the dealerships.

BMW M8 & 8 Series Gran Coupe to be launched online

According to a media report, BMW is likely to announce the prices for the 8 Series Gran Coupe and M8 during an online launch. The event is expected to take place before the lockdown is lifted.



The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is a 4-door version of the 8 Series. In India, BMW is likely to offer the 840i variant, which comes with a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine producing 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.



The M8 is the high-performance version of the regular 8 Series. The 2-door coupe is powered by a 4.4-litre, V8 engine that delivers 592 BHP and 750. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

The M8 Competition features the same engine but packs 617 BHP and 750 Nm of torque. In the international market, the car is also available as a convertible.
