Re: If you could daily-drive a Supercar in India, which one would you pick?

I wouldn't daily drive it but if I had to, I would definitely stick to the Porsche Boxster. Here's why -

- Short wheelbase, so can clear most speed breakers
- 310 BHP is perfect for Indian roads. Can easily rev it up in 2nd gear without breaking speed limits
- Handles better than cars that cost 10x of how much I paid for it
- Quite practical for the kind of car it is. It's got 2 boots and the front one is surprisingly spacious. Picked my friend up from the airport last month and it worked!
- Convertible top is a big plus for Bangalore weather in the monsoon

Re: If you could daily-drive a Supercar in India, which one would you pick?

It depends on the money entirely. If I cannot afford a multi crore Supercar then it would have to be the 718 Cayman for daily use. It's kind of the perfect balance between practicality and daily usability.

However if I had the money I would still not go crazy and get a McLaren 570S. I believe the 570S is all the supercar you need for India. No point in getting 675LT, or 720S etc. The entry level 570S does everything and more for a daily drive supercar.

A Ferrari 488 and Porsche 911 come close but I seem to like the McLaren always.

Ergonomics are critical for a daily driver. From this perspective, many Bhpians have already mentioned 911 and R8.

The other one that comes to my mind is the M series, more specifically the M5. When most of our cars struggle to do 0-100 under 10 seconds, this rocket can do double of that, all with decent ergonomics.

Surprised, no one wants an M5. This is the most practical sport car. Although only little different from the regular 5 series, it's a different breed. I came so close to buying this, but for some reasons could not.

I would choose the Porsche 911 GT3. It is practical enough to be used as a daily driver and very reliable too. And the driving experience doesn't need any explanation. It is one of the best all round supercars. That exhaust note is more entertaining than what we hear on the radio these days.

I'd pick an Aston Martin Rapide....to me this suits better to the Indian roads as well as can be used more often with the family..

Re: If you could daily-drive a Supercar in India, which one would you pick?

I can't think of a better supercar for the daily grind than the 2006 Aston Martin DBS.

If you could daily-drive a Supercar in India, which one would you pick?-20200416_14493201.jpeg

It checks all the boxes - a sonorous, naturally-aspirated V12, mid-engined (well, sort of), manual transmission (if you're lucky), oodles of carbon fibre, drop-dead gorgeous looks, and ample luggage space to boot (pun intended)! Plus, you get to play James Bond every day !

My second choice would be the Ferrari California T. Reasons? One, it's a Ferrari. Two, it's easy to pootle around town in (from what I've heard), and three, it's a Ferrari! 'Nuff said!

I'm not sure if this can be considered as a supercar, but I'm gonna include it anyway - the Bentley Continental GT. This is probably the most practical of the lot - an slush box, ample ground clearance, tons of boot space, and that cosseting interior! I wouldn't mind being stuck in a gridlock inside one of these !

A red Ferrari with a manual please!
And a classic shape at that.
360 Modena would be the perfect car to drive for an office commute over Bandra - Worli sealink.

Tuning a Golf to take on 99% of the cars mentioned so far in this thread would need at least a Stage 3 kit, which isn't exactly cheap (well over a few thousand dollars).

Even then, pushing 400+ BHP is always a risk, and not a dependable daily driver (in India at any rate).

Way cheaper than running any of these other cars. A simple stage 2 (stock turbo) takes it to 400 horsepower And a sub 4 second 0-60

Also, this block is capable of big power. We’ve got a handful of people running 500bhp mk3 vRS’s and several with hybrid turbos in India with the only drawback being the FWD. The Golf R fixes this and more

Yep, impressive indeed. Even though the Haldex AWD is essentially FWD under most normal driving scenarios, it is still better than the FWD mk3.

I guess ~400 BHP is more than enough for India, since the initial acceleration of 0-100 in 3.6 s is enough to give competition to faster cars for a while.

It's only anything more than that which requires a further upgrade.

Re: If you could daily-drive a Supercar in India, which one would you pick?

My, this really does make the choice difficult. Off the top of my head:
BMW X5M
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S
Tesla Model S P100D
Mitsubishi Evo 6.5 / Subaru STi blobeye
Porsche 911 Turbo S
Toyota LC 200
Toyota Supra MK4 UK Spec

This really is the Sophie's Choice of garages.

Wouldn't be a reliable DD in India.

Re: If you could daily-drive a Supercar in India, which one would you pick?

Very interesting thread!

Reminds me, that I regularly see an Audi TT, a Mustang GT and a BMW Z4 being used as daily drives to work. An amazing sight to start the day with!

Personally, I think I would choose the M5 or the Flying Spur. I love convertibles, but for a daily drive, four seats (and a matching number of doors) and a quiet cabin feel essential!

One day, hopefully!
