@esteemer: How are you so sure? To put an end to all arguments I'll try and seek it out since its near my college. Till then let the arguments rest. They've had a tiring day.

Google turned up images of the 924 which very much resembled the one Pancham has put up. The 944 had some minute differences. Or maybe I could be wrong.

So, best would be, you confirm it and finish the argument.

Im pretty sure. You have a look at it yourself. See the front of both the cars the 924 and the 944. Look at the indicator cluster.
Its definitely a 924.

They look very similar to me. Extremely hard to understand.

Both 924 and 944 are EXTREMELY similar. I have not seen the 924 so i would vouch for 944(judging from the picture). 944's ORVMs look the same. I will try and get a better pic tomorrow

It is very sad to see such a car gathering dust in such a place.

Actually we wouldn't have been surprised if you would have spotted a Ferrari because there are quite a few in Kolkata. In fact one guy out there owns three!

Yeah we all know about him. He has wonderful cars in Mumbai also. But he maintains his cars so well that they look as good as new. But unfortunately I haven't seen any ferrari yet. My bad. I think that is the reason behind my over-excitement after seeing the Porsche

Even Lamborghini has a yellow logo.

The defining feature is the indicator and driving lights in the same band as pointed out by arjun rudra.People from delhi can help out if they have spotted this car.
By the difference pointed out by avishar it sure looks like a 924 and not a 944 as I said earlier.
Shamik the BMW you saw there was not an e34 but an e30 318i owned by the same owner.

I am leaning towards 944 because of the rear spoiler.

Interesting!

Shamik has reason to believe that it is a 944 because the pic posted by him is a 1983-84 European spec 944,which has a slightly altered front bumper design from the US spec versions in addition to being quite similar to the 924! (Note the difference in indicator pods, airdams and twin high beam/fog lamps instead of one on the Euro model)

US Spec:

Euro spec:
Supercars & Imports : Kolkata-944.jpg

Now in the Euro spec 944,note the area marked in the red circle.Compare it with the area marked by the red circle in the pic posted by Pancham.
Supercars & Imports : Kolkata-porsche.jpg

The difference is subtle but quite evident. The distance between the high beam/fog lights and the number plate of the 944 is greater. Hence I have a reason to believe that the car in question is a mid-70s 924.

It is indeed a 924. It doesn't have a spoiler. Checked today. Will try to get nice high-res pictures on monday. Well done, Ayan.

I know its not a private parking lot, but it has guards. Don't know if I can go up there to click it. And thanks.

AFAIK you cannot go up there. Cars need some privacy you know.
From these pictures it seems that the Porsche had been lying there for QUITE a long time.

TIP: Best possible way is to tip those guards and make sure that your ride is parked beside the Porsche while you are hidden inside your car with a camera.
Just a crazy idea
