Mercedes-Benz is said to be gearing up to launch a new high-performance convertible in India. Reports suggest that the AMG E53 Cabriolet will be launched on January 6, 2023.



The Mercedes-AMG E53 Cabriolet is a 2-door convertible with four seats and an electric folding soft top. It is equipped with AMG’s Ride Control+ air suspension. Inside, the car gets an AMG-specific 3-spoke steering wheel and dual-screen setup comprising of a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system.



The E53 Cabriolet uses a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech. It develops 429 BHP and 520 Nm and is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels via the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.



Mercedes claims the E53 Cabriolet can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Sorry, I beg to differ.

I owned a Peugeot 307 CC in Dubai for 6-1/2 years. I don't need to say that Dubai is hotter than most places in India, though it hardly ever rains.

I had great fun owning and driving this car. The top would disappear into the trunk, or re-appear, at the touch of a button and in less than 30 seconds, If I did this while waiting at a traffic light I would get a lot of stares.

The car was mechanically identical to the sister model, the 307 sedan, with a notable difference - it was some 300 Kg heavier. THis is because the absence of an integrated roof reduced the stiffness of the body shell, and hence the underbody platform had to be made much stronger with a lot of additional steel, as was the A-pillar for roll-over protection, to reach the level of stiffness needed when the roof was down.

With the roof in place the car was exactly like any other 2-door sedan, though its performance was significantly worse then the 307 sedan due to the additional weight. Nevertheless, the 2 liter petrol engine (138 bhp, 110 lb-ft) engine, mated with a delightful Tip-tronice auto box, gave a respectable performance. Of course, though people thought it was a sports car, purely from the looks with the top down, it was nowhere close to being one.

So, a cabriolet is definitely suitable for India, provided it has a well-designed metal roof that stows away electrically. It is great fun to drive, with the wind-in-hair feeling that no other car can give along with protection from the elements when needed.

Its not about the weather , its about the attitude of the people & the dust.
you put the roof down & you will have a thick layer of dust in your interior.

For all you know someone from the bus may also spit in the car while the roof is down

Stunning car. Along with the E53 sedan, which I think is 1.1 Cr, this is very well priced. I know they have tried and not succeeded in the past but India could be ready for another cabriolet wave. It’s a brilliant 3rd or 4th car which will typically be the case for most garages who get this.

Mercedes-AMG E53 Cabriolet deliveries begin in India

Mercedes-Benz launched the AMG E53 Cabriolet earlier this year. Now, the carmaker has announced the commencement of deliveries.



The E53 Cabriolet uses a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech. It develops 429 BHP and 520 Nm and is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels via the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.

The AMG E53 Cabriolet is an open-top 4-seater. It features an AMG-specific Panamericana grille and an aggressive front bumper. The car gets a sporty rear bumper with quad exhausts.

Inside, the car gets an AMG-specific 3-spoke steering wheel and dual-screen setup comprising of a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. It also comes equipped with AMG’s Ride Control+ air suspension.

Gorgeous, head turning, great interiors and infotainment, powerful, must be fun to drive and yet in all likelihood, totally impractical for Indian conditions (sun/dust/lack of privacy/fear of thefts)!

An E Class AMG means a V8 to me, sad that this one is only an inline 6. Also where can I buy those balloons? They're some of the best looking I've ever seen in my life. Something about that metallic yet satin look is so attractive to me.

Love the E53. I Just wish we had more cheaper options. For those early morning or late evening drives it will be great fun driving open top. If nothing I will opt for Mini Cooper.

Exactly I am sure it will be fun even if it is 3rd or 4th car. The biggest pain is cabriolets are starting at 60 Lakhs plus. If they come in 15-20 lakh bracket, I am sure it will sell.

the Peugeot 307 CC with its hard top will have a sizeable market.
