2nd-gen BMW M2 to be launched in India in May 2023

According to a media report, BMW is planning to launch the second-generation M2 in India in May this year. Bookings are expected to begin soon.

The 2023 BMW M2 was unveiled in October last year. It uses the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder engine that powers the M3 and M4. However, it has been slightly de-tuned to 453 BHP and 550 Nm. The engine is mated to either an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual.

Like most modern BMWs, the new M2 also features a polarizing design. It has a kidney grille with horizontal slats flanked by single-pod headlamps and a chunky front bumper with rectangular vents. The car gets massive wheel arches and a completely redesigned rear fascia.

Inside, the BMW M2 comes with M Sport seats, with M Carbon bucket seats offered as an option. The M2 also gets features like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch infotainment screen with connected tech and BMW's latest iDrive8 software and M-specific controls.

Re: 2nd-gen BMW M2 to be launched in India in May 2023

Looks like there is a sudden trend of bringing out these super cars with manual GBs in India. Something that the Porsche 718 Spyder started. But as is mentioned in the ACI review of the same it seems to be not very practical as the top speeds in the lower gears itself are pretty high and the cars have tall ratios tuned to speeds on the Autobahn resulting in using the cars in 2nd or 3rd gears in regular Indian conditions.

Given that the M2 is a turbo, things may be better possibly. But perhaps it might have been more practical to offer manual GBs in their regular offerings like the 2 or 3 series. And to charge a premium for manual!

Drive on,
Shibu

Is That a BMW? - Not in my eyes.

The front looks like the designer got bored and went home early. The lower part of the bumper is just 3 rectangles. Probably the Chinese like it this way.

Looks enthusiasts are for some treat, from an optional manual to M carbon roof, the standard features & options look very good.

Expect a major increase over the outgoing model.

Remove the badge and it goes straight to the wacky and weird thread. It's looks like a very old rice kit from veilside or simlar is bolted.

BMW needs to fire their entire design department. They have massacred yet another decent looking car. Unfortunately buyers these days have far more money than taste, so even these ugly things will sell.

If this what is the design language of BMW, I will be in no surprise that the sales numbers across the globe will start to dwindle. With an already perceptively flop X1 (only actual numbers can give us a clear picture) in India, poorly designed 7, X7, and XM, I would like to highlight here that even BMW employees are not happy with how roadmap and business strategy of the organisation - I am saying this on a personal experience.

Personally, even I feel that Mercedes-Benz is more aggressive and committed than BMW.

BMW is on a downward spiral in India IMHO, the design is the main contributing factor. Also the brand image has reduced, recently a lot FM Radio ADs about a BMW Dealer in BLR. Not discriminating, but when someone sets out to buy something as aspirational as a BMW hearing advertised on local FM Stations where Mass market consumer cars are advertised mainly. There should be some exclusivity associated with the brand.

Re: 2nd-gen BMW M2 to be launched in India in May 2023

I agree with above comments about the design of the M2 as well as the direction in which BMW is going with their portfolio of cars.

Just because it is a new generation, is it really necessary to completely change the look? The chassis and internals can be upgraded, updated, add better interior can be designed without drastically changing the look.

The last gen M2, in the Competition avatar was one of the best looking sports cars in my opinion. We have some beautiful examples with some members here too! There was no need for such drastic change even with a generation update.

I never thought that I would say this in my life, but looking at this M2 (and the X7, 7 Series), I am starting to miss the design language of Chris Bangle from many moons ago at BMW.

Seeing this and the rest of the BMW lineup, only one thing comes to my mind and the is Vito Corleone's line from The Godfather -

From the era of the E46s to this ghastly looking thing. Sad.

Seeing this new-gen M2, the one thing that immediately comes to my mind is Lego's Technic Toy Car lineup, and I am definitely not very happy with that.

Image of Defender from the lineup for reference:

This still looks good.

What they've done to the M2 is ghastly to say the least. I had said this earlier and JFK1975 also mentioned this - I so miss the Chris Bangle days. And considering that BMW has RR too - the design of RR Spectre looks like it has been heavily influenced by the BMW designers.

Wonder what happened to the Elegant, Handsome, Sexy looking cars - do they now just want cars that are easy to draw by a 3 year old?
