The emoticon says it all. For that price we have more powerful cars within our reach.

what makes you think people buy mini for power?

well, mini sells for a little less than CR-V here, still two times the hyundai accent price. coming from BMW, it does command that much of respect.

Well i do agree that it commands respect. But for some of us, stock is not enough is it? so spending 13L for the car and more on mod's in not worthwhile IMO.

P.S. Sorry guys for going offtopic.

The Hindu had something about VW relaunching its classic Beetle and BMW relaunching its classic Mini.

Ye Gods! How could a pro motor journalist write that? Maybe it was one of the music critics filling in!

thad i dont think vw is relaunching the classic beetle they shut their mexican plant which was the only producer of the calssic beetle. the mini is already on the roads so i guess the reporter was living in the past. there used to be a mini cooper s that belonged to the owner of a garage in bandra. blue coloured looked really good.

No, VW did "relaunch" the beetle model, but my point is that the writer seemed to think that the Mini had always belonged to BMW as in "its".

I think I may be really confusing things here... sorry; I never intended to.

VW, as I'm sure you know, brought out a new Beetle, some years back --- I think it was a Golf with a curvy body shell that reduced its internal space but looked trendy. As far as I know, the classic, as in original Beetle, has not been reintroduced.

The difference that The Hindu author I was reading seemed to confuse is that, while the Beetle was always VW's own and original, the Mini name is something that has only ended up in BMW's hands through the history and various failures of the British car industry.

i guess it got all confusing. the last classic beetle factory in mexico was shut down and it is now used to make the current beetles. the one u r refering to is the beetle dune model which is retro looking. they also brought out the beetle conv.
