Hey, my parents went yesterday and called me to tell me about it!

There are two actual cars on display, while the rest are all scale models.

Definitely worth a visit. Ill be going this weekend for sure.

The two cars on display are: 1. BMW 320i Group 5 racing version, painted by Roy Lichtenstein (1977) and 2. BMW M1 Group 4 racing version, painted by Andy Warhol (1979)

Details quoted from the exhibition brochure.

Just back from the Exclusive Presentation. They unveiled two models out of the 15 (or is it 16). Yes Dippy they do have the scale models on display af all 15 but i didn't ask if they were for sale.
As soon as I entered the Jehangir art gallery, I was greeted by a bevy of PYTs standing at the gate. They ushered me in to the first hall on the left wherein the entire senior team of Navnit Motors was present. I got introduced to two Germans with tongue twisting names one of who was a Doctorate from London. The cars were kept in a glass enclosure and covered. The large spoiler on the M1 gave its identity away even in the covers as much did its contours which the cover hugged passionately.
After a few glasses of good quality Moet and Chandon Champagne (even wine was being served) and a few itsy bitsy stylishly carved canapes, the presentation began. The cars were unveiled.
The first was the 1977 320i which is a group 5, 300 BHP racing version. On this the noted artist Roy Lichtenstein has used his brush to depict the landscape and the sun. This was inspired by the Le Mans track landscape or the scenery which passes the car when in move. White base with the yellow sun rays and black and green.

The second car was the 470 BHP, 1979 M1 group 4. This is painted by Andy Worhol in blurs and many mixed colours none of which are clear and well defined. His logic being that he wanted to depict speed and at speed, nothing is clear, everything is a blur. He has even used his hands and fingers in most parts like the bonnet to get the desired effect. Im an art aficionado of sorts too but to me the machines were what were art here. They took first place in this art exhibition. After all how many art exhibitions does one go to where one can ogle at the canvass instead of the painting. This was one such exhibition.

Actually it was a strictly for invitees presentation with less than 30 people in attendance till i left. I did not think it right to carry a camera. It would, look a little out of place

New York City

The BMW Art Cars World Tour exhibit was in New York - displayed at the Grand Central Terminal from March 25 - April 06, 2009.

I accidentally managed to discover it last Sunday and clicked a few pictures on my mobile phone camera. There were a bunch of people clicking away so couldn't get close-up and detailed shots.

Here are a few random shots:
