About the Ferrari v SL thing, I'm definitely a supporter of the SL (for those of you who don't know why, I'm not gonna explain) BUT the Ferrari is infact faster according to claimed manufacturer times from the SL even though its huge power disadvantage. The Ferrari has a claimed time of 4.5 and the SL 4.7. I know that manufacturers are usually conservative in their times but that applies to both companies so no difference. And more importantly, the Ferrari is extremely light weight compared to the SL, hence the huge timing advantage. The only thing according to me that made him lose the race was some crappy driving which IMO makes him the worst driver at the SR. If you don't know how to drive an advanced manual like the ones in Ferrari etc., then please don't buy one and act like you have the best car in town!!!!

END OF RANT
Dude, if you're going to act anal about it, MB's UK website clearly mentions that the Max Power on the SL55 AMG is 500 hp (either way, who gives a **** 493 or 500? ). Moreover, it goes 0-62.5 in 4.7 secs, not 0-60

As for the timings you're talking about, 0-60 timings do not necessarily tell you which car will win a 1/4 mile drag. As you are no doubt aware, cars such as these complete the 1/4 mile at velocities in excess of 110mph, and a lot can happen between the time a car hits 60 mph and the time it exceeds 110. The gear ratios and therefore the number of gear changes it makes, weight, amongst other factors all affect the 1/4 mile time. The 360 F1 Spider can do a 1/4 mile in around 12.8 seconds give or take @ approx 110 mph, whereas the SL600 Merc (which is very similar to the SL55 AMG) can do it in around 11.9 @ 120 mph, which clearly illustrates that although a 360 Spider will get to 60 mph quicker, it will get very quickly caught, passed and left behind by an SL600 (or SL55 AMG) in a 1/4 mile drag. I'm not saying the drivers at the SR launched the cars perfectly, I'm just saying that even with a perfect launch a 360 Spider would not beat an SL55 AMG over a 1/4 mile!

What i want to know is, was the ferrari being pushed to the fullest? or was the car being babied because its still kinda new?

With a MT in a drag race, you have to be pretty brutal with your shifts if you want the best timing, and i just hate doing that personally.

Was the 360 a MT or a F1? That would be a huge factor. The SL can post consistent top end 1/4 mile times coz of its `box, whereas if you are in a MT you are definitely not as consistent.

From the article, the Poonawals find the Ferrari difficult to drive - I guess they are still getting to grips with it

the 360 was a manual. and i guess the guy took part in the drag just for the sake of taking part. who would drag a brand new 360 to its full potential within a month or 2 of buying one

Well, bottomline is that the SL55 AMG W-H-U-P-P-E-D the Ferrari. I am with Grim on the fact that the Spyder was probably the worst driven car at the SpeedRun.

And if you aint going to revv it high and race, dont enter competitions.

Totally true no second thoughts. Somehow the presence of a Ferarri was just not felt at the Speed Run. Maybe the appearance of the magical 355 would have been something even if it didnt race

Pics::Ferrari 360 Spider, Spotted in Pune

Hi Friends,

Just two days back, I spotted Yellow Ferrari 360 Spider in Pune on Baner Road. It was parked outside a very small hotel. The owner was missing. There were no commercial offices, or a nice hotel in the surroundings. It was parked as if it is stolen from somewhere. I took some photographs. I hope you guys will enjoy it.

Guys, pics of that one have already been posted in the Exotics spotted in Pune thread by fellow member 'tidzter'. The car is NL registered and is parked along with a Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

Hey Nikhil, do you have any idea as to why the 360 is kept to rot along with that Conti. Flying Spur?

I dont think the cars are kept to rot. It maybe that the cars are under the scanner and they're being hidden. So till matters cool down, they'll be kept in hiding.
