Stolen cars in India

Was watchn a documentary on the box the other night and they showed how almost brand new 'strappers' cars on HPI ( fianance ) are exported out of UK to either Dubai or India. We are talking of range Rover Sports, X5, Porsches and High End Mercs.
How much of truth is in this?? I mean the guy Donald macantyre went under cover and was shown how cars are obtained by deception then either flown out of Uk straight into India or by sea container to Dubai. Just before the gang got busted they had at airport a lambo gallardo spyder, a Range Rover sport and a Porsche Cayenne Turbo all late 07 cars on air pallets ready to fly out to Bombay on a AirIndia freighter.

So is it common knowledge to the buyers who drive flash motors in india that they could have a doggy history and are getting it cheap so they dont give a damn

Shall we say, they would not want to know. The origin of the car is not an issue with the customs IMHO.

I heard of a case where someone in Bangalore gave his grey market Merc to Sundram Motors for a service. They keyed in the VIN and informed the "owner" that the car was "hot". Car was sent back to the agent in Mumbai. Agent's comment - "Don't worry, we will sort it out!"

The legal bureaucracy etc in India + cost of recovering the car means that a payout will be a cheaper option for the insurer

I remember sometime back David Beckham's X5 was stolen from outside a restaurant where he was with his son. That X5 had some top-of-the-line security system but it was disabled using a laptop by the thieves. I wonder if that car is in India now.

Well its a very well known fact that a lot of cars stolen from UK end up either in Dubai, India or Malaysia

The 4x4 are the biggest targets.

Yup thats a fact, alot of stollen cars are available from the uk market and are sold in mumbai. all the papers and the dpocuments and the chassis number plates are forged and its only that when the car coems in for service and the diagnostic tool is plugged in can it be known that its a clocked car done over several 1000km s and just short of a overhaul. recently 3- black, grey & red F430s had come in the same channel.

they see first howmuch can they squeeze the buyer. some cars are sold at just under the official dealer price some are sold at dirt cheap rates too. some are sold higher than the dealer price if they know there is a official waiting period on the car and the client wants his car instantly. its sad how people trust such stuff with somuch money just to save time n not have patience to wait for something originally built.

Unlikely that stolen UK cars land up in Dubai. UK has right hand driving system (same as India) whereas Dubai has left hand driving system
