Indeed, they do come for a similar price, if not the same. This is a well documented issue that the GT-R faces, even outside of India. A price that is a little too high for the brand.. You run into certain other brands of cars, which may not be as capable, but if all you are going to do is "Show up" at places in "style", then the other brands matter a lot more!

I would think going by the Nissan Z converted price, the GT-R would be easily around 1.3 to 1.5 crore.
Sorry to nit pick but a normal 370z costs $35k. Nismo 370z is $45k. A 2013 GTR is $96k. The 2014 GTR with upgraded power will be $99k.

But considering duties and other misc costs, i am sure it will approach 1+Crore in India.

Which is why I would assume there are a lot more R8's than GTR's in our country, also considering that the Dealership will help get you the former car to your house whilst you have to do the paperwork by yourself to get a GTR. The GTR is a great car (one of my personal favourites) but the manufacturer name that supports it may change peoples mind to go for something like an Audi. Brand value! Nissan must do something to make this beast available to all the people at a slightly reduced price.
A R8V10 is $127k for base model with base features. A base Maser GT costs $130k. These are the starting prices and since it will always be customized, expect to pay $150k atleast. There is also dealer markup which adds about $20k for most models. So while all of these target the same demographic, the clientele will be a lot different and i don't think it will be cross shopped with GT-R. I would guess the GT-R would compete more with Jag XKR-S, 911 Carrera/Turbo, AM V8 Vantage, Viper, Corvette and likes.

The technology that goes into GT-R is a lot complex and i don't see why they should reduce the price just to appeal to wider audience. Nissan did try that in 2008-2010 but the sales were more or less the same. I do think that Nissan should draw the line at $100k. Anything above and beyond would kill it. With $100k, it takes care of m3s, z06 at the $80k-$100k level and also takes care of zr1, viper, 911 carrera at the $100-$120k level.

I think while Nissan tried to keep the prices lower, the macro economics do not allow them to, as well. The yen strengthening has put a lot of auotmakers who produce cars in Japan at a disadvantage.

Anyway, If I sort of agree, If I'm a Maserati customer, the GT-R won't even be in my radar.

Considering that you have quoted those prices in $$, the situation seems quite ok over there in the western parts.

Out here, because the GT-R isnt really available in the price list and the added import taxes the price seems to be quite high for what is end of the day just a Nissan. I fully agree the GT-R is not a simple tuned up car. However, there is a demand for that vehicle here in India and it would be quite nice to have one for the price of a R8 or a XKR-S. I am sure we would have seen a lot more GTR's if it was easier to bring to India. Lack of support in importing the GTR through Nissan is a added headache surely.

Incidentally, Top gear magazine has given the XKR-S the award of the "most value for money" sportscar in India. Do they mean "value for money" as in cheapest but with all the luxury of a supercar? I kind of thought it was. My question is, how much cheaper is an XKR-S compared to a R8. The base and the V10 version.

Re: Pics: The Nissan GT-R in Mumbai - And now a few more!!

I think Nissan will start selling the GT-R directly through dealerships in a few month's time, but sadly it'll be over a crore (ex-showroom in Delhi, Mumbai, Blore etc), and as much as I love this beast, I'd also put my money on perhaps a BMW 6 series coupe/convertible or Audi R8.

Nissan 350z at 60L (on-road blore) itself is annoyingly expensive, for which, you can get many better options.

If Nissan starts selling the GT-R at around 70-75L (on-road) then it'd certainly sell like hot-cakes, because there'd be no competing car in that niche.

There is no chance of it being sold for such a low price. After the recent import duty hike, the car i guess should be well over 1.4cr on road!

Spotted a Red GT-R at Worli seaface yesterday evening. Don't think it was Sachin's car, from what i read on fb it could be the ex-Chandigarh car.

650hp and Password-JDM exhausts !

The AMS Alpha GT-R in Mumbai. Said to churn out close to 2000BHP. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Finally some proper pics of the car. I would really like to hear more numbers about this car, please, anyone?

2000bhp, I doubt. AMS stages tops at Alpha 12, which is a 1500hp tune.

Alpha 9 would be ideal (more than a handful at 950hp) for India. I believe ecks' car runs on Alpha 6.

Yes even I felt 2000BHP is exaggerated. If I'm not wrong, Alpha 12 tops at 1200bhp. Add 2 zeros to any Alpha package and that's the power you get. Hence, ecks' Alpha 6 gives 600bhp.

Quote from Alpha website says,

Quote:
The key to the menacing power of the Alpha 12 is the AMS Turbo System capable of generating over 1500 HP yet providing an enormous and usable powerband.

She produces 1200 at the wheel.

The car is tuned for 1200 hp at the wheel on c16 fuel and once the tuners come down, she will be tuned for pump gas as well and should produce 850 or 900 hp then.

We did take her for a run yesterday along with 2 other cars for comparrision and boy did she surprise us. we did not do a numbers check but she is like a jet on wheels.
