OOh, what's that Yankee couch on wheels doing on indian roads?
BTW, that luggage rack on the boot spoils the looks.

Re: Various Embassy & Consulate Vehicles!

Saw a TLC belonging to Japanese consulate this Saturday near EGL Domlur. It was a previous gen (white color) and was in immaculate condition.
Interesting to see this one especially because it had the windows covered with black grills.

Re: Various Embassy & Consulate Vehicles!

Black grilles????
What they gong through? Central Africa? or a war zone.
p.s- might be a car that had been in service in hostile places elsewhere.

Re: Various Embassy & Consulate Vehicles!

Guys sorry to spoil the pic mood. I have a question to ask. This can be answered by any but I would be happy if the BHPians going abroad/NRI BHPians could come up with some pics(well, I will be leaving in a Week so I will to try to click some). here goes the question:

Consulates of other countries have their mode of transport as the vehicles of manufacturers from their Land, what does our consulate members(Consulate of Federal Republic of India) people drive in when they are abroad? Anybody have pics of Indian consulate vehicles from abroad? I would be very sad to see our Bhabhus driving in Mercs or Local branded vehicles.

I would love to see them in our most beloved bhabu gaadi "The Amby" with rolling red lamp on top with Sunscreen above the driver windshield and the typical bonnet Rear view mirror and 4 NSG/Security officers hanging from the Footrest along side the doors.

Re: Various Embassy & Consulate Vehicles!

Well ,that is exactly our problem.
No diplomat posted abroad would forgo the opportunity to drive a foreign car that he wouldn't even dream of in India.
So the answer is simple. They drive foreign cars.

@Dicky - wish our Diplomats would add a lil more spice to their official rides. As @AlphaKilo has described above, the amby would intimidate even the most seasoned expat diplomat. Could actually visualize the sight on the streets of London or Italy .

Cheers

It is nice to think of it but impractical.

We need specially made left hand drive Amby's for countries which drive on the right. Extreme climactic conditions and the fact that many countries have high speed expressways which an Amby will not be able to handle.

Broken down Ambys and the simple fact that for the foreigners it will be really seen as an antiquated British car, will only worsen India's image.

As a kid in Chennai, I grew up seeing the Russian made Fiat clone Lada being used by the Russian consulate and others from the East European bloc. Was definitely not impressed.

Those days, I do remember a lot more true American and British cars being used by their respective consulates. Nowadays they seem to use a lot of Japanese brands made in their countries.

Coming to the Indian Embassies, the one in San Francisco has Mercs for the Consul General and one more for probably the next highest official.
