Saw this Nissan Pathfinder today. Have never seen this car on the road before, hence snapped it.

The Rolls Royces are not consulate cars but normal cars with normal nomber plates and owned by Indian citizens. The owners are just bestowed with the Honarary position by the country due to their business dealing with that perticular country. My relative has the Hon CC of Philipines, this does not make him a Consulate person..

Re: Various Embassy & Consulate Vehicles!

Hey Speedy,

Thanks for the information. I always thought that these were Consulate cars - but also wondered why they were not running CC plates.

A few questions though :
  • Do such vehicles have a different set (series) of registration?
  • If the owner is bestowed with such a position - why does it have to reflect on the registration plate? - I know it maybe an Indian mentality where a lot of people display their position / party logo on their number plates.
  • Do these cars enjoy immunity in traffic offences?

The series for the nomber plates are normal series for anyone, no special treatment as they are not considered as consulate cars.

I might be wrong but this is the norm by the consulates and the Indian Govt. The person bestowed with this position can act as a proxy incase the Consule General of that country is not available, as per my limited knowledge on this the said person is treated as a consulate and country representative. My relative does not like it on the car but has to do so.

They do not get any special treatment for any traffic offences commited. The cars are treated as any other normal vehicle running on the roads. As you would also be aware the cops dont hassle cars with hon cc plates or cc plates and treat them as VIP's and pay a blind eye to offenses.

Don't these cars get any tax or duty concessions?
The number plate color is similar to the ones on cars that are brought in under EPCG that levies little or no duty for hoteliers.
They could have used regular white plates with the hon cc title mentioned on the top instead of a black background one.

As far as i know, my relative paid the full amount for his car and his number plate is as a normal car (white with black writing) with the Hon CC written on it. As i said i have limited knowledge on this front, so would ask someone who is aware of this.

A friend of mine is an honorary consul - he paid what I would pay for his cars

I don't think so else every small African state would have been represented in every city by now!

In Bangalore - they use white on black number plates. One privilege they get is parking in the VIP section of the airport and a Vidhan Soudha sticker.

The consuls need not be involved in commerce with the country they represent. My friend is into construction in India but represents a Central Asian country. The state government asked him to represent them. All he does is throw a party for the ambassador once a year and take them around various companies in the city. He invites a lot of us to the parties to make the numbers up!

Re: Various Embassy & Consulate Vehicles!

I was just wondering, how do they assign diplomatic numbers to consulate car. They normally are in the format xx CC/CD xxxx. The first xx prior to the CC/CD denotes a country. Any idea on what basis they assign a number to that country? I know for sure 109 belongs to Israel & 77 I heard is USA (not sure).

Cheers!
Rohan

Seen the car many times near the Phoenix Mills compound, outside the Sunburn Cafe. Looks so much better than most other hatchbacks

Re: Various Embassy & Consulate Vehicles!

Saw this spanking new Chrysler 300. I think this was the new facelift on as the headlights were totally different than those already spotted here. This was the best pic I could manage. Was being escorted by a police car.
