2:23 to 2:33 gives me a heart attack. Wonder what it would have like at high speed.

Range Rovers or any tall SUVs would react in a similar manner, 5* NCAP counts for something keeping the passengers safe.

The rich spoilt people aren't too excited about crashing their thousands of dollars worth of cars either.

Can we please layoff terms rich spoilt brat etc. Its starting to get on my nerves. Crashes can happen with anyone anytime, you never know. If you think a swift or other middle class cars is safe doing 100kph think again and Go check backyard of your favourite dealership for crashed non rich, un spoilt, non brat owned cars.

re: Supercar & Import Crashes in India

Just check this thread, taranonline. You'll find that the Swift owners get just as much as stick for being stupid, when they are stupid, as the Mercedes.

In my city, I've noticed that, whereas a few years ago, expensive cars were the most carefully driven, with drivers/owners at least being aware of the repair costs, if not caring about others on the road, this is no longer true. So, are the "rich kids" now just as bad as everybody else? Worse? Or what?

However, there is a certain sort of accident that tends to happen to a certain sort of person driving a certain sort of car, and, I'm afraid the reactions to those accidents is going to go on getting on your nerves.

Sad to see exotics crash and burn. The RR toppling incident is understandable, but an S class toppling?

Hope the occupants were able to escape unhurt.

re: Supercar & Import Crashes in India

Hope all passengers in the S class were safe. That is one terrible accident. The driver must have hit something at high speed (maybe the divider or something else) and hence the car toppled over. Otherwise, it is not possible for an S class to turn over like this.

re: Supercar & Import Crashes in India

Hitting something like a curb with sufficient speed will flip anything.

Is that fire damage too?

re: Supercar & Import Crashes in India

yeah, looks like a bit of fire damage. secondly this may be of bad bad timing or bad taste, but what happens to the cars that are a total write off. and how much do you think that the insurance company would ask for for a person to take it over, e.g. the S class merc. even a rough estimate will do.

Bit more on the S-Class crash:
  1. Car strikes a concrete post by the road.
  2. Being ferried to Ernakulam showroom from Calicut showroom.
  3. Driven by dealership driver.
  4. Drives escapes "without a scratch."

Thanks for this. That stretch around Edapal is quite a tricky one, and above that there are these speed regulating barricades which actually adds more trouble.

The Hindu article mentioned that the car caught fire in 15 mins after the accident. Whereas, according to the Malayalam daily, the accident happened at 8:15am, there was smoke coming out for an hour, and then exploded around 9:15am.

The Malayalam daily also says that the car lost its control while descending the hill and hit the barricade (concrete poles) and flipped - The "S class" Lost Control A car with adaptive breaking system, and Attention assist system which continuously monitors driver behaviour lost control . One would need extra ordinary talent to crash one of these.

Well, if the driver have slept off, none of these safety features can be of any help right? Probably he came out alive because it was a Merc.

That's most certainly the case.

But I'd also like to add that whatever be the car, one wrong move or a slight difference in angles or intensity of impact here or there could be the difference between being able to walk out without so much as a scratch, or instant death.

This guy is lucky, considering the state of that Mercedes.

EDIT:
