Well the car if older than 3 years (which it seems) it will not only attract the regular 130% duty but some crazy penalties which could take total duty to 200% for being more than 3 years old if not then I reckon your duty outgo is atleast 130% + US1000 at most for freight and add another lac or so for all the admin/greasing etc. ALL THIS TO KEEP THE CAR I HOPE AS YOU WILL NOT RECOVER ANYTHING IF PUT IT FOR SALE! So if you still interested PM me your email id and I will give you a customs clearance guy in Mumbai as this is the best port to bring it in from.

I suppose company pays for shippment no big deal (moving household goods back to home country) unless they are giving him the car at written down value (an old practice of almost giving it free become obsolite since advent of cafeteria approach to comp). Some companies also offer to pay duties on furnishings and appliances not sure about cars as I have no experience for the same.

I agree with ajmat sell the car if it is free as the hassle/headache will not be worth it as you can never cash on the premium just buy a new Superb/Merc etc here. This from someone who moved on a TR in 1998 I could bring in a brand new 316i/A4 (lived in HongKong where cars have 60% duty without rebate on export so my old car was out of the question) figured it would be a hassle for a 316i which is not worth it. Feel the same about your Saab as well. If it were some exotic like E420 CDi or any other mainline brand I would

Freaking awesome car too! This isn't just the normal 9-3; this is the Turbo-X version!!!

2.8L V6 churning out ~280PS and stiffer springs and shocks! Really meaty exhaust note! And yes, an AWD system too.

Really love this car!

Your chairman has got a pretty nice taste in cars! Pity no one else can buy new Saab's today with all the problems the company is facing.
If you don't mind me asking, is your organization an automotive organization?

re: Mumbai - Saab sightings

Just to revive an old thread. Yesterday I happened to see a beautiful Saab convertible on the eastern express highway in Vikhroli are around 7 pm. It looked quite well maintained. Anybody know to where does it belong to?

Wish I could take pictures and post here, but I was driving with cars too close to me.

The price is now down to 6 lakhs. What's the story on this car - 6 lakhs is a very low price for a one of its kind Saab. And I believe this is probably the only one in India.

The car has now been on sale for the past 2.5 years. It started with an asking price of 14.Then to 10. Then to 8.50 finally now to 6.

It has seen a lot of neglect, parked out in the open.Battery issues, irregular servicing and basically prolonged non-use. We all know how the last part (prolonged non-use) goes with the Europeans. If you look at one of the pics on the portal, only one of the xenons is functional (big expense there).Plus its the lethargic Aisin Automatic on this. (I was myself at one point in time after this car, even going to the extent of tracking down this car somewhere at a petrol pump on Dockyard road, texting friends who live in that area for the location/whereabouts of this car. )

Rare car?Yes. But only a Saab fan will buy it. Apparently for the condition it is in, not many fans around.

Re: Mumbai - Saab sightings

This is a rare car - for the price i guess it's a steal as long as you can find a good mechanic to diagnose it and fix it. In case you are interested I believe this is the address:

HP PETROL PUMP CHAMAN AUTOMOBILES
277 Reay Road, Dockyard, Wadi Bandar, Mazgaon, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400010
022 2371 7925

Re: Mumbai - Saab sightings

Super glad to see a TurboX in India.
I assume the car is sold now since it is not on OLX anymore?
Does anyone know where it is now or spotted it anywhere?

Re: Mumbai - Saab sightings

It completely went off my mind, spotted a 9-3 Turbo X (Probably the above discussed Mumbai Car) here in Nagpur couple of months back (Pre-Covid era) on a flatbed. Probably taken for delivery. Will try to find more if i can.
