Nice pics, buddy. This car looks so different. I've never seen anything like it in India. Definitely in a class of its own in terms of looks. Don't know about the performance as never drove one till date

As far as i am concerned that they have kept the Lambo to idle for more than continues 8 hours and if you do that to any car it will catch fire for sure.

Aleast somebody would have driven the car in unused runway and enjoyed a ride in it . which would have been a faster way to drain the petrol.

The cars had transport locks activated i.e. they cant be revved beyond a certain rpm (3-4,000rpm IIRC) and the other stuff like the a/c, stereo etc. dont work.
Also they techs and drivers kept on making sure the cars were cooling down after a specified number of laps at the track as the cars apparently heat up alot. The car was probably started by the handlers and they were obviously unaware of the fact that the car needs to be cooled down.

Not sure about that, because I've seen sumo(s) left at idle for almost a night after the engine gets a re-bore.

Lamborghini catches fire while idling!!! 2.5 crores down to ash.

Last month, Lamborghini was here in Chennai to showcase the cars. Yesterday, on the return, it was found that the fuel tank of one the cars was not empty and hence it could not be loaded into the cargo.
So the car was kept idling the whole night to drain the fuel.
All went well until morning when smoke was noticed and within minutes the great car reduced to ashes.

Not, wont there be a test for this kind (max idling) while car is manufactured?
and this time of the year its not hot either.
I couldn't think of idling causing the fire...

As per the news reports ground handling staff contacted the manufacturer and idled on advice of manufacturer .

Any way I read in Jaysmokesleaves threads he slept in his Safari keeping AC on and engine on idle for whole night.

so many better ways to empty the tank of a lambo !!! 10 hard laps round the MMSC is the best bet.

In lighter vein, They never should have denied nitrous entry

@rahulkool- this what The Hindu says

Quote:
Lamborghini catches fire

A Lamborghini car, whose engine had been kept idling to drain the fuel in its tank, caught fire in the departure loading area of the cargo complex at the Chennai airport on Monday, fully destroying the vehicle.

According to airport sources, a total of five cars had arrived from Dubai by Emirates Airlines a few days ago. They were taken to Irungattukottai for test ride.

On Sunday evening, one of the cars was brought back to the airport for being taken back to Dubai on Monday.

The vehicle was kept mounted on a dolly in the loading area.

What a colossal waste of money ! I am sure there is a better way to drain fuel out of a car than leaving it on for hours together.

The best part is that I read in the Hindu that the manufacturer was contacted in this regard before embarking on this great fuel drain exercise.

Thats Real Sad News, but i doubt if any engine/vehicle will catch fire if it was idling. I've heard tales of Lambos and Ferraris bursting into flames due to engine over heating under hard driving and melting tempratures. But this hardly makes sense to me, as majority of Lambo/Ferrari/Any Supercar owner enjoys idling and revving in public more than taking it to a track and putting it through its paces.

btw, any pics or anyone know which among the five was lost ?
