You are planning to buy an S600 W140? My advice : Don't. The car is way too complex, can get troublesome, and will entail frequent headaches. The W126 is a superior machine to live with.
Yes, a beautiful car when in ship shape, luxurious and elegant, makes a statement of having good taste. A beast to maintain properly, will run forever if you get maintainance and repairs done only by company workshop. So be prepared to spend on an average 60K per year at an authorised workshop. You will see that most of the survivors were company owned, hence company maintained cars. Many W126 even the simplest 280's have gone to the ground because they were killed of by imbecilles.

Now the W140, particularly the 500 & 600, that is a car that none outside a worshop should ever touch. These cars just have to be authorised dealer maintained. That means expensive to maintain. But you would want it to run on all 12 cylinders. The good news ofcourse is that Mercedes technicians do visit the dealer workshops and do take an interest when they see an exotic beast. A friend gave his 280SL to an authorised worshop and the technicians from Germany took an active interest in its resurection. It does cost money, but now goes like a bomb. They had messed up the paint on a panel, re-did that free of cost. A W140 is NOT an enthusiasts car to work on and get done. It is only an enthusiasts car for driving, if you like driving a tank. But again, it has presence.
I am putting this up as I do not like to see these cars ruined and scrapped.

Cheers harit

harit i go by your words & toatally appreciate your advise.i bought this car only because the owner was not taking good care of it.
i have bought it back to life & have taken good care of it only at authorised mercedes work shops.
about the w140 i always wanted it.i have come to an understanding that it would take a lot of effort from me to keep it in top notch which i promise to do as i have the time.
for me these ars are a daily transit,so you can expect them to be running healthy.

Re: My first gift to myself for the new year's eve! A Mercedes W126..

I know I am late, but nevertheless, a big congratulations nandishpal. She is immaculate and a beauty to behold. Like someone previously said, you would look like royalty in it, not just rich. Its going to take a lot of time and money to get her going but its going to be worth every effort. And as for the wheels, I think those alloys on that video you had posted is cool. We could probably source it for you from Dubai, but it'll cost you a dime more than anticipated. Will let you know if I find any though. My two Fils (UAE currency!).

Cheers

Still no pics of your V6 Nandish.

Can you treat us with some nice pics .

I had seen a V12 some time ago, but the electricals had some major issues. But the price is still tempting.

Are'nt the W140's prone to electrical issues?

Re: My first gift to myself for the new year's eve! A Mercedes W126..

Beautiful car. Congrats. I have had the pleasure of owning many Mercedes. Luckily as my entire family has been a huge mercedes fan from the 60's. The best ones have been the w124 300D and the w126 300SE. I had a gigantic w140 S420 also. That car is the king. We had 18 inch lorinser wheels with full AMG kit and exhaust. That car still turns more heads than any new car. I am surprised to see electric seats on your 1985 model. I have a 91 300se Japanese spec and thats the only one w126 in our country to have that electric seat option. Does yours have carbs or mpfi?
