Is it an actual Mini Cooper or a Mini retrofitted with Cooper mechanicals?

This car had come up for sale to me a few years back. It is a 1972 1275 GT which seems to have been modified.

It did not have a central speedo but normal instruments mounted in front of the steering.

Yes that is correct. It has been extensively modified with a new front end and the interior as well to make it look like a Cooper.

Yes, it is indeed a 1275 GT converted to the Cooper.

I only very recently happened to see its photos in red, it was painted in British Racing Green when Dulquer had it prior restoration.

Only the wipers give the retrofit away else it looks near original

It was never British racing green. That's a different car. When he bought it, it was red. Pretty much the same condition as in the picture posted by JHS.

Ya. He imported an entire new front end, fenders, bonnet etc.

And btw, he's got a new 10" x6J minilites on the Mini.
