SS-Traveller, a very interesting writeup. Loved reading it, thanks!
Although have seen Volvos while in US, in India, when you speak about Volvo, the image of a luxury bus comes to the mind first!
So when I read the title of the thread, that's the first thought that came to my mind

3KM/lt ! That's in the Hummer range. This is definitely one of the SUVs that made the word 'gas-guzzler' (in)famous and spelt doom for the biggies of Detroit at one point of time.

Saw the first pic and realized that this is the SUV Chatur drives in 3 Idiots.

SST. That was indeed a great find when Volvo A.S.S failed to act-on and they would have charged some $XX and say"The whole sensors were to be replaced and we need to import them and costs "

Sorry for going onboard like this. I want to know your service charge for finding this?

I don't take service charges from friends for work done in my non-professional (passionate) area of interest!!!!!

And I get to know that you had a XC90 at your disposal now? Whatever happened to sharing and caring?

Re: Driving a Volvo XC90

"Volvo has upgraded the aging XC90 with cosmetic elements. Let’s quickly look at what’s different on the 2012 XC90 that we expect Volvo India to launch in India next year.

2012 Volvo XC90 interiors
  • 3-spoke steering wheel
  • Aluminum trim as standard
  • watch dial-like instrument panel design with white lighting
  • split tailgate
  • leather grab handle for third row passengers
  • A top-end Executive variant equipped with soft leather seats that have ventilation and massage functions
2012 Volvo XC90 exterior styling changes
  • Daytime Running Lights
  • Silver bumper and roof rails as standard
  • Body colored lower door moulding
  • LED brake lights, dual light tail lamps
  • six-spoke 18 inch alloy wheels
The 2012 XC90 will provide yet another opportunity for Volvo India to talk and advertise its products. The XC90 in its upgraded form also gives customers who are looking for a seven seater the ready upgrade in the same showroom space."

2012 Volvo XC90 gets a mild makeover

Cheers!

Surprising - as the older Scorp CRDes had the adjustable speed feature of intermittent wiping.
However it had a funny way of increasing and decreasing the wiper speed - by the speed of switching 'off' and 'on' the lever once - after selecting the intermittent mode !

My ex-GF's Vauxhall Corsa (that's the little hatchback, not the saloon sold as a Corsa here) had that. I used to find it really neat. She never got the hang of it, and used to accuse me of "changing the settings" on her car!

I guess that this is the kind of control that appeals to a slightly geeky person. For fairness, I should say that she was probably a better driver than me. Her awareness and anticipation were much better, and that, rather than any amount of techiness, makes for a safe driver!

I saw a Volvo SUV in Chennai a few days ago, on the ECR. That, I think, is only the second Volvo I've seen here, compared to countless Audis, BMWs, Mercs. I wouldn't mind a job in their service dept (is there one?) --- I don't suppose it's a very busy life!

(Always been a bit of a Volvo fan. Even loved the wardrobe-on-wheels estates of the sixties/seventies. Those were the days when cars still died of rust before they got old, but Volvos ...didn't.)

Yes - M&M decided the rain-sensing feature on the VLX was a great gizmo addition, so they chucked out the intermittent wipe system - and then they went on to list the conditions where the "AUTO RAIN" feature (yes, that's what they call it!) would work/not work erroneously . I would have liked both systems anyway, as is present in the XC90 (or the Touareg I checked out recently).

Re: Driving a Volvo XC90

Volvo has confirmed
that it will launch a new XC90 in 2014, some 13 years after the original first went into production.

The new XC90 will also use Volvo’s new generation of downsized, four-cylinder VEA (Volvo Environmental Architecture) engines, all of which will be available in petrol and diesel forms.

The new XC90 will also be offered as a plug-in hybrid, using hardware that Volvo has co-developed with Siemens.

Cheers!
