Re: Spotted..! Lancia Ypsilon

This car belongs to someone from the Italian consulate and the person sitting in the car stays in the Suburbs.

I've seen this car quite often in Lower Parel and parts of South Bombay too. Just one question. The car is listed for sale, but its Left-hand drive and on CC plates.

Can this car then be bought by a member of the ordinary public and registered for use on Indian roads? If so, what is the process??

P.S. 11.5L for a hatchback? I really think its unique and quirky but that is a lot of money for a car with no after sales service or support and one that I am absolutely sure will be a pain to register.

Re: Spotted..! Lancia Ypsilon

I think it is possible for the general public to buy a consulate or a CC registered car. But it would be expensive since they will have to pay all the other duties/taxes (that would have been waived off for the Consul). Also there would be a hefy fine imposed since it is a LHD car. So even though it is possible, I think it will easily take the price up by another 30-40% or more.

Forget about the fines and taxes. It is very difficult to convince one to spend 11 large on a car that is LHD. Imagine the pain of driving this, within city and on the highways.
