Buying a good bike

Guys, I'm a newbie living in Bangalore who is fed up waiting for Indian OEM's to release a good multi-cylinder bike. My searching has narrowed some parameters down but I need more info. before taking the plunge.
1. Bullet proof reliability, therefore only Honda will do.2. Only in-line fours
3.No super sports(too much maintenance??).The Honda Hornet 600 fits the bill. I am told a new one will cost 5L. Do any of you have any experience with this model??
Sure would appreciate your feedback/views.
