My Garage: Suzuki Bandit GSF1250, Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Z1000SX & 2016 Triumph Thunderbird Storm 1700

Hello Friends ! Happy New Year 2013.

I would like to share my experience of having a Super Sports in my garage with all the fellow bhpians.

Little bit of History first:

Bikes, Cars , Machines etc etc have always been in my mind since the school & college days. Surfing the net for wall papers of superbikes and super cars during those days was my favorite timepass (oh yeah as i had no gf to waste my time & money with). Always wanted to go in for engineering or the technical field after school but the lack of funds pushed me back to Commerce stream, never mine Sindhis are too good at hisaab kitaab lol.

Slowly gradually saving pocket money and community scholarship prizes etc etc made up my budget in 2003 to go in for a Used 1993 Kinetic Honda for 10K (ah a nightmare to maintain, specially when you are running in crises). Graduated joined a freaking call center managed some bucks and got a 1993 Maruti 800 in 2005 for 42K. Had a small accident on my kinetic bending the forks chassis and a total write off. Not a single scratch on my body believe me not a single. Sold the trash out for 3K to a Bhangar wala. A friend was moving abroad for job assignment to Dubai and was willing to sell his 1993 (yeah again 1993) Rx100 for 6K. Some how managed the funds and got it. Oh Man nothing in this world matches the fun or riding a Rx. Enjoyed bloody high speeds and pop up wheelies, the sound etc etc.

Well the same friend called to Submit my resume to a placement agency as there were some opening in Saudi Arabia for Accountants.

Went in for the interview got selected and the pay was tempting enough to kick the freakin call center and pursue my career in the finance field. had to sell of the Maruti for 39K as there was no point letting it rot in the rains and sun. The love for the Rx did not allow me to sell the Rx100. Kept it back home as i was uncertain about my leaves and vacation what the schedule would be. Fortunately i used to get 30 days off after every 5 months of work. Then in 2007 got my 1997 Esteem souped it up with almost everything that i could buy from Saudi for cheap. Be it exhausts MSD ignitions , NGK iridiums etc etc. Please to read my thread on the Matte Red Esteem.

Finally i got transferred to Iraq in March 2011 with a rotation of 35 days on and 35 days off schedule with a 1X5 times pay raise & double step promotion. Well oh Well now i can afford to have some thing decent and nice to ride. Bought a 6 months used Suzuki Access for 44K in August 2011 & a 6 months old Chevy beat LT in Dec 2011 for 3.6L.

Maintained the Rx very well for about 7 years you can say! Finally the time came to say good bye to the almighty Rx100 in 2012 July. Sold it for 25K to a friend who stays nearby and then the mental brain of mine started thinking kinky things like i need to go in for a Superbike, ohh naa parents would not allow , wife would say waste of money this that and all. But no chance of changing my mind at all.

Started my search for SBK's within a budget of 1.5Lakhs and was not lucky enough to get one in that budget. Daily messages to forum member Straight6 asking him to send some references of people selling 90's SBK's at cheap rate. Came across to many dealer and middle men dealing in used SBK's . The world of SBK's believe me its something different. The dealer quote exorbitant prices to the buyers.

Took a test ride of the NC23/NC29 the legendary 400 RR's. But i would say that these bikes are not comfortable to ride on daily basis. Riding the NC's with a pillion is a PIA for the rider as well as the pillion. Wifey straight away said nope go in to for RE 350 or TB 350 ZMR (yeah she knows the names properly) I was like no no no no. I don't want any Indian bike at any cost.

Was in touch with the previous owner of the CBR for quite sometime asking help and advices to find a low budget used SBK's and one fine day ended up buying his 1993 CBR 600 F2

Was in touch with this guy for almost a month and never met him nor called him , only the emails we used to exchange. One fine day spoke to Straight6 and told him bro i am going to Armeet's place tomorrow morning to buy his F2. tried to find out some details of the bike thru his friends and Kunal's friend Amit Gidwani who had recently acquired a CBR 600 F3. All positive fixed up meeting time with previous owner and went to his place early morning and picked it up on full cash.

FINALLY oh yeah FINALLY got home a Super Sports INLINE 4 600CC from the Honda Stable. The 19 year beast is still as young as a 1000 year old vampire lol.

Riding a superbike for the first time in life was a great experience on the whole. Riding back home from Chembur to Koparkhairane on s Superbike was a dream come true for me. People starring at you and ZMR fellows trying to chase and look at what you riding was making me feel oh yes i don own a superbike now.

OHH too much of story for now. Will be posting time to time updates and experiences with the big boy.
Here is the pic of the big boy posing in his stable with the pony Access 125

Would like to add some like and dislike points which i felt when i bought it.

4)Ride Comfort
5)Big Seat, can easily accommodate 2 full sized adults.

re: My '93 Honda CBR 600 F2

Congratulations. The 600F's are wonderful to ride and even better to own. A popular model across the globe so parts aren't a problem. You are right a lil sprucing up and you're raring to go.

A few years back I was looking for the F's but couldn't gather enough dough to buy one :-)

OH my bad. I was expecting a reply from you stating you are somewhere nearby to have a meet with a like minded BHPian Biker.
25K is a very low milage for a bike of this age, Or may be it was well kept and hardly ridden.
All the best for the make over, Will wait for the pictures.

Back with updates

Back with some update on the big boy.

Ordered most of the stuff required to bring the ride back to perfect running condition. Below are the parts which I ordered from all round the world.

UK stuff:
1)Fork oil seals and dust seals (delivered and fixed on the bike)
2)Used battery box. (still in UK, should have it in March)
3)Spare rectifier regulator. (still in UK, should have it in March)
4)Stage 1 dynojet jet kit. (still in UK, should have it in March)
5)Tapered steering upper and lower bearing cone set with seals (delivered and fixed on the bike)

US stuff:
1)K&N air filter. (still in US, should have it in March)
2)Ape manual cam chain tensioner (CCT). (still in US, should have it in March)

China/Hong Kong/Ebay stuff:
1)New fuel petcock. (delivered and fixed on the bike)
2)Iridium wind screen. (delivered and fixed on the bike)
3)CF theme rear view mirrors with led indicators. (delivered and fixed on the bike)
4)3D rubber tank pad. (shipped from Hong Kong)
5)CBR handle bar grips. (shipped from Hong Kong)
6)Tank gas cap CF themed sticker 2 pcs. (shipped from Hong Kong)
7)Brake and clutch levers. (shipped from Hong Kong)
8)Brake and clutch lever sleves. (shipped from Hong Kong)
9)Front and rear brake pad set. (shipped from Hong Kong)

Locally purchased stuff:
1)8K HID Hi Lo for head lamp. (fixed on the bike)
2)Rear indicators from CD 100 ss. (fixed on the bike)
3)Misc oil, nut bolts, coolant etc etc. (fixed on the bike)
4)Rear brake pads matching with dazzler. (fixed on the bike)

Unplanned stuff:
1)Front and rear wavy brake rotors. (Later in 2013)
2)Chain and sprocket kit. (Later in 2013)

Finally after coming back from my work hitch we stripped him down to the bone and gave it to painting to a local painter who used to do the touch up works on my esteem. He and I spent 3-4 days and got all the painting thing sorted and back home the mechanic (ex 7th gear mechanic) was working in my parking area on the technical stuff of the bike. Yes the mechanic is competent enough and he is willing to come to your home and work. Moreover his charges are nominal.

Attached are the pics of the of the beast without clothes. Some pics of the parts which I had ordered & some pics of the boy after all the work was done.

Did not find much time to get the stickers and rims painting done this time, hopefully once I am back home in the last week of January will get this stuff sorted asap.

Paint polishing then stickers and a clear coat will also be done by the end of the month and beginning of the next month.

Re: My '93 Honda CBR 600 F2

Purely my opinion, but the all white paint coat isn't doing the legendary F2 any justice, the all white should mostly just be left for the cars really. The F2 would have looked a world better in its OEM paint scheme, or even the later Red/Black or Blue/Black 600RR schematics.

Hey Yogi!! I still can't believe my eyes. This is my bike from back in college. I owned her briefly after giving off my Kawasaki Ninja. But had to give her off cuz on one of our club bike rides to Mahableshwar a friend of mine met with an accident and expired! He was on a Yamaha Thunder Cat. Since then I haven't ever been allowed to touch any super bike till date. But 'those were the days'!! And I miss them.
When I gave off the bike the next owner painted the bike black, as you see in those pics. Haven't ever seen or heard of her until now when I got to this thread!! Good to know its in good hands now, and will well taken care of! Lemme find and post a pic of the bike when I had it..My Garage: Suzuki Bandit GSF1250, Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Z1000SX & 2016 Triumph Thunderbird Storm 1700-image.jpg

Another picture. This ones from the front. I got more from the rides but I can't find them. My Garage: Suzuki Bandit GSF1250, Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Z1000SX & 2016 Triumph Thunderbird Storm 1700-image.jpg

Thanks for the comment bro, Will be getting the sticker work done soon and then lets see the outcome after that. If i have to go with the OEM paint scheme I would rather order a new ABS Plastic complete fairing set online. Less hassle. Do you have any idea on the import duty thing for fairing set?
I had to pay Rs 398 duty on the mirrors last month.

Wow looks nice. Can you tell when was it last in which year you sold it. I am sure it has gone in many hands before it came to me.
As you can see the front indicators have been flushed and the fairing is altered, may be a fall or crash in the past could be the reason for it.
What was the kilometer reading when you sold it off.
One last question, these supertrapp superlight end cans come with adjustable plates right? Do you know how to tune it.

Re: My '93 Honda CBR 600 F2

Yogi, I dun remember the kms off hand, but it could have been close to 10k. I may have some pictures of the speedo on my laptop. If I find them, I will update you with the info. I owned this bike in 2001/02'ish, a year here and there. The bike was in original spec when I owned it. I never fiddled with anything on the bike, so I'm the wrong person to ask for advise on end cans!!
I would advise you to try and get the body from Thailand. A round trip and hand carrying the main faring would cost you less than spending on graphics and body repair works.

First off, congrats Yogi. Wishing you many happy and safe miles with the CBR. Hope you have invested in good quality riding gear.

In your first post you mentioned that you did not like the shorty adjustable levers. Any specific reason? Asking as most people swap original levers for aftermarket ones.

No issues mate! Will try to open up the end can to see if there are any plates inside. Check over the web how to remove the plates. Let me try for a round trip to HK China Thai, that would be cheaper.

That's too high, 400 USD kit will cost me appx 550 USD landed cost.

Thanks a ton bro, all in place.
Yes I did not feel comfortable with the shorty levers, some how felt its slipping out of the fingers. So ordered a set of OEM looking ones.
