Re: Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review

Received this beautifully crafted Sling Bag and Leather Covers from Capital Harley. These were to be given along with the delivery of the bike but were not available at that time. The Sling Bag even has a foldable Helmet Case built in. Also space for mobile phone and sunglasses on the chest band.

The bike is at 1764kms on the odo, btw, today...

Starts at the first touch of the starter button even in near freezing temperatures here at Meerut. Unfortunately unable to transport it down to Goa for IBW'2014. So have hired 4 Enfields over there for riding around. See you bike enthusiasts at IBW (Jan 16~18) ...

Re: Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review

Sir I could see you are now affected with the "Brand Syndrome" which is good anyways.

That helmet case looks useful.

Congrats on the channel coverage and all the best to "Mutineers Motorcycling Club". Keep the pics flowing.

Re: Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review

So it was IBW 2014 time and we headed for Goa. But sadly at the last moment our transport plans for the bikes couldn't take off and we had to travel without our Harleys. Maybe we will drive down the 2000km journey, a 4 day ride, next time.

So we reached the IBW venue at Vagator Beach and found nearly 500 Harley's!! parked in one place, though they claim that nearly a 1000 Harleys reached there
Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review-ibw_1_gate.jpg

There was a separate Harley parking as last year. This had also irked many other Superbikers because of partial face that the IBW was taking over the years towards Harley. But then what can the organisers do when the main money was being pumped in by Harley. Sad but true...
Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review-ibw_2_harley-parking.jpg

It was a glitzy event as always

with some breath taking stunts thrown in
Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review-ibw_4_stunts.jpg

Finally had the opportunity to meet Mr. Anoop Prakash, Harley India's MD, at the unveiling of the Street 750. Had some very interesting discussions about the future path of HD India and the importance of this new engine technology.

There were some very interesting 'custom' conversions on the Sportsters. I concentrated on the ones on the Superlow.

We did not let our lack of bike's hamper our urge to ride. On the first day (16th) we undertook a nice Ghat Ride to the Dudhsagar Falls on the Karnataka border. It was a nice 250kms both way ride.

We hired 4 Bullets. Now riding the Bullets after so many years was another experience. Though they were easier to handle but we felt like we were driving paper weight bikes after the Harleys. Also they were no where near the power and stability of the Harleys. But overall a nice change.

Re: Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review

Harley Diagnostic Codes

To access codes

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting should illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word “diag” should then appear.

4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" (on mine the “t” looks more like a “╘” )with the first P flashing.

5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer

To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

1 - Record the codes.

2 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 3 If the code is current it will reappear.

4 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

5 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.

"No Rsp" will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.

Re: Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review

Few views of the Diagnostic Mode on my motorcycle. Now I don't need to rush to the dealership if some issue crops and can isolate the issue and search for exact solutions. Instructions on how to enter this mode is given in the preceding post-

The diag message
Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review-harley-diag-mode_1.jpg

The first screen
Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review-harley-diag-mode_2.jpg

'no rsp' message on features not available like the tachometer module
Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review-harley-diag-mode_4.jpg

Finally 'no errors' found
Harley Davidson Superlow XL883L - The Comprehensive Review-harley-diag-mode_3.jpg

---------------

Why is the Harley costlier than say a Bullet. It is the QUALITY aspect that goes into each and every aspect of the motorcycle. Like the preceding fully computerised Diagnostic Module to the Quality of the Chrome that undergoes multiple layerings and materials to make them last a lifetime unlike say a Bullet which starts to rust within a year of ownership. A nice article on the Chrome Quality of the harley gives an insight into these 'facts' -

Bro, don't mean to drag the Bullet into your ownership thread as well, but with reference to the chrome bit, please see my reply on the 750 thread where a healthy debate is already raging.

Peace!

Saw a beautiful Superlow Custom Job "Jangi Paltan" owned by a retired army colonel. This has also featured on this edition of 'Raftaar' on NDTV.

They have quoted me a cost of 45~50K for such a intricate hand crafted job.
