Seems to be a mini-nightrod with subtle changes. Think the potato sound is gone and I could find some cost cutting done like changes in switch gear.

Will be interesting to watch the behavior of this bike. Any impression on the electricals?

But good to see HD making a model for Indian needs. Have always been a big fan of their marketing setup and how well they captured the Indian Market.

Most interestingly, adding "Locking Gas Cap, Forks, and Ignition" and "2 Up Seat with Passenger Pegs". Looks like they have done intense research and gathered good feedback from existing customers also.
And if they keep the pricing as anticipated, then their sales graph would be skyrocketing.

1) Harley usually never discloses exact power capacity figures. 750 is presumed to be a 53bhp bike with ample torque which is yet undisclosed with a speculated top speed of 150kmph. 500 will be similarly prorata lower specced.
2) Why wouldn't they be? We are already using so many twin cylinder bikes including Harleys since years.

Thanks for sharing.

A part of me wonders if I should keep my SuperLow booking or cancel it and get this one.

Are you experiencing "buyers remorse" after reading this ?

Not one bit. The build quality of the Superlow is exceptional and I love the chrome. It is a true blue Harley and that is what I like about it. Personally I do not like some of the cafe racer styling cues of the Street and remember that cost cutting is evident on many of its parts. My dream Harley was and still is the Fat Bob and then the Fat Boy but present mental budget did not permit them.

Street has many more India specific features which I discussed before and also because the present engine capacities of the Harleys (883 to 1600cc) are a overkill for Indian road conditions. It also has higher ground clearances by about 2 inches than other Harleys and also India specific suspension for pot holed roads. But is it is true blue Harley, only time can tell... And even a price tag of 4.5L won't make it a mass market bike by any stretch of the imagination. But then it is a move in the right direction by Harley which will only fetch more takers for its bikes. Looking forward to seeing more HOGs on the road.

It is up to you to decide whether you would like to retain or cancel your booking.

Santosh,
No doubt HD have done their homework pretty well. But what is the market segment they are trying to target? Would it be young turks who have had their share of fun with RE and then want to move up in the same family?

Was reading an article, HD has around 65% of its customers who belong to the YAH group (Young At Heart but aged above 45). Suppose they want to make this as an aspirational motorcycle for people @ 35-40?

Also buying a HD is a statement these days and people will not want to be associated with an entry level.

Remember even though Super Low is their entry model, it is the Iron which is their top selling. Some Indian Mentality you See. Depends on what & How HD will target the audience with this. Will be an interesting space to watch if their famed marketing department can pull it off again.

Re: Harley Davidson Street 500 & 750 - Made In India - Launching in 2014

I am a little disappointed at the lack of chrome on this model. However this shouldn't have much of a bearing on the sales.

By reducing the entry point what this will ensure is that Harley showrooms will have increased footfalls. Someone who has never considered a Harley for the price may just end up checking out and buying one. Higher footfalls due to lower price point may have a positive effect on the current range as well where someone may have entered to checkout the entry level bike but may end up buying a super low or iron.

Harley has given more sleepless nights to competition.

Any Harley with a stock silencer sound rather tamed. A screaming eagle or Vance and hines is the only thing that can give it a decent sound. Wonder what this 2 in 1 exhaust and liquid cooled engine would sound like. Exhaust note is very very low as far as I could figure out from the latest video. Check it out guys!!!

Total Noob question:
Are Harleys currently being sold in India without fuel tank locks? Does that mean a locking fuel tank cap is considered an optional extra?

Thank God for a relatively affordable, high GC, comfy and yet ever stylish Harley. Feels the same when fortuner was too far for my budget and God sent the XUV.

The current entry model has very low GC and dosen`t convince somehow to go for it, however the 750 seemingly packs enough conviction to go for one.

Yes. They are without locks but superbly finished in chrome. An OE lockable gas tank cap costs about 3K while an off market one can be had for about 750 bucks. Most parts on Harleys are metal, sculpted and heavy and that is why the cost.

Some more photos of the Street from the launch highlighting somewhat the 'built to a cost' bike that it is. Many more parts are now powder coated and plastics abound -
