Kawasaki Z1000 and Ninja 1000 launched in India at Rs. 12.5 lakh

Link to News Section

Japanese motorcycle maker Kawasaki operates as India Kawasaki Motor in India and has set up its first exclusive dealership at Wakdewadi, Pune. Currently, the Japanese motorcycle giant sells the CBU built Ninja ZX-10R and the ZX14-R motorcycles, and the CKD assembled Ninja 300R and the 650R from this showroom.

If a report on IndianAutosBlog is to be believed, the dealership has already begun taking "unofficial" pre-bookings of the Kawasaki Z1000 street-fighter motorcycle. The pre-booking amount is said to be 5 lakh rupees and deliveries are likely to commence from January, next year.

The 2014 Kawasaki Z1000 was showcased just days ago, at the 2013 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Italy and this motorcycle's early arrival into India is surprising as the country usually maintains its tryst with big bikes months after their international launches. The report goes on to add that the Kawasaki Z1000 could be priced at 12.5 lakh rupees, undercutting the likes of the Ninja ZX-10R and the ZX-14R models.

The Kawasaki Z1000 features a 1,043 cc in-line 4 cylinder engine that outputs a peak power of 140 Bhp at 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 110 Nm at 7,300 rpm. The transmission is a six speed manual unit. Clearly, the emphasis is on ride-ability in everyday conditions rather than a peaky-track oriented engine set up.

The motorcycle gets a tweaked ECU to make for better throttle responses, ABS as standard and a taller sixth gear for more economical highway cruising. Designed with Kawasaki's "Sugomi" philosophy in mind, the Z1000 is easily the most aggressive looking Japanese street fighter motorcycle in production. In India, the Z1000 will take on the likes of the Honda CB 1000R and the Yamaha FZ1, other street fighter motorcycles sold here. The Z1000 will be imported through the completely built unit (CBU) route.

re: Kawasaki Z1000 and Ninja 1000 launched in India at Rs. 12.5 lakh

The Dealership had confirmed the Z1000SX model to be displayed in November at the showroom in Pune. So i guess as per what the Kawasaki India head had mentioned during the launch of the zx10 and zx14 of bringing two new models per year does hold value. Great going Kawasaki and nice to see them keeping their word. I am not sure of the pricing, as they would be competitive and this also could be the ex showroom pune price for the bike. Looks no doubt imposing and power figures are also nice..if i was in the market for a naked sports bike, i would pick it up for sure.

It was in Overdrive a couple of months ago that more Kawasakis are coming to India, which do not have the Ninja nameplate.

So maybe it is true.

Z1000 bookings begin!

Source : http://www.motorbeam.com/bikes/kawas...1000-in-india/

Confirmed at my end that they are indeed taking bookings, the style is a hit and miss. But beats the FZ1 and CB1000R which cost around the same money and are desperately in need of an upgrade.

I agree. Although, given our fairing hungry population, this was coming sooner than later anyway. Good pricing IMO and I'm pretty happy with the Ninja 1000 being on sale.

P.S. Now to wait for the Z800.

Re: Kawasaki Z1000 and Ninja 1000 launched in India at Rs. 12.5 lakh

Hi All,

I have a query, when you can get premium cars at this price point why 1 litre engine motorcycles are priced so high? Cars at this price point are loaded with technology and significant amount of sheet metal goes in to the manufacture. These bikes being a CBU still costs near 6 lakhs without considering the import costs.

Is these bikes priced so high to give a premium image or there are very less buyers that R & D costs per bike is so high. Requesting all BHPians to give thoughts on this.

Size matters is one point. All those R&D money spend on the tiny machine to churn out all that power etc has to be collected back right?

And then there is the tax.

Well, the part in bold is where it works the other way around actually.
How many 1 litre car engines do you know that churn out 200+bhp? The technology used in these bikes is real cutting edge to get that kind of power output. Then there is the huge cost of developing and testing a futuristic body - chassis, swingarms and electronic suspension. And then there is traction control, anti-wheelie, launch control, different power modes and a whole lot of other electronics.
Don't just go by the cubic capacity - a better yardstick is to see what segment of cars will provide you the same performance as these litre-class bikes. The answer would be cars that cost 5X more at the minimum.
Compared to a car at similar price points, these bikes are like Star-trek technology.
You get a Wagon R with 1L engine at the same price as a Z1000 (pre-taxes) - I don't think you can even begin to compare

ps: no offense, just my 2 cents.

Kawasaki is on fire. Four models in 2 months. Ninja 1000 will be cheapest litre class in India i guess.

nothing wrong with the question. I think many around the world have similar questions. niranjanrvce has put it right. do the comparison with cars in terms of performance. if you look for specs of 0-100, top speed, power to weight and power output per cc then the price will be peanuts compared to similarly speced cars.

Thanks for the pictures from the launch event niks_devil666. Good to see that India Kawasaki Motors is pushing hard into the premium motorcycle segment. Now, hope they get their dedicated showrooms/service centres up and running soon. As of now its only in Pune, with Delhi getting the second one.

Most of the KTM branded Bajaj probiking service centres do not have technicians with adequate know how to fix the machines.
