Kawasaki displays Z250 street bike at Tokyo Motor Show, 2013

Kawasaki has displayed its naked street bike, the Z250 at the Tokyo Motor Show. Bearing similarities to bigger Kwackers, the Z250’s aggressive and in-your-face looks are guaranteed to turn heads.

Why am I seeing subtle styling cues from the Pulsar here!!

Hope Kawasaki has some plans of bringing this to India!

This looks like a Pulsar 200ns and a Honda cb twister combined .

Most probably this would be priced cheaper than the Ninja 250r, due to the naked styling.
The bike seems promising with the proven 249cc engine which powered the Ninja 250r.

Hope this would make it to India.

I think this is a very beautiful bike! I hope they have worked on the Low End Torque if they are reusing the engine of 250R since unlike its Ninja 250R cousin, this is for use in city instead of tracks.

Looking forward to seeing this beauty in India!

Kawasaki have a special site within their indian website for the Z250. Seems to come in three colors - White, Red and Black

Click here for Z250 special site

Launch could be just around the corner.

Oh My God! The picture on the right on the homepage has me lusting and drooling!!! I really do wish they get it here and price it around CBR 250 category (or a bit more but not so much more so that it is near the Ninja 300 category)

This is an absolutely stunning Motorcycle in form, in function, I don't think it will disappoint.

We need more nakeds, at least in India. The traffic, weather, speeds...these elements IMO would suit a naked more.

Though I personally prefer faired bikes, but this is one (in small capacity) which has me drooling.

Price it at 2.5L OTR and you will have a winner.

I dont think it will be priced like that.
We know that the kawasaki ninja is approx 4 lakhs(ex showroom bangalore) , and generally the difference between faired bikes and their naked counterparts will be around 40 thousand bucks at the maximum.. (duke and RC series)
So i wouldnt bet on that price range , but would love to buy it if it does arrive on indian shores.

I do agree and I was being optimistic here. With the launch of the RC390, it would be interesting to see as to how many Ninja 300's are sold now. And if the R25 comes with a twin, I think, Kawasaki will have a hard time selling its 300.

About the Z-250, its a naked and it probably has the engine from the erstwhile Ninja-250 (not a bad thing). At 3 tops is what I expect the prices. Anything more, it won't be VFM.

Without compromising on quality front, if they can price it realistically, we will have a winner, else will go down the Inazuma way. It is for Kawasaki India to decide its fate.

Yes, the Ninja is 4L ex-showroom. Agreed, but that is a 300cc Ninja, while the Z250 gets the engine from the now gone Ninja 250, which i suppose was being sold for 3 lakhs ex-showroom?

Also, there is no ABS to speak of and the much advertised slipper clutch from the Ninja 300 is not featured here. So it is essentially a Ninja 250 without the body work, and a much better instrument console.

I would say - Inazuma pricing should be a safe bet, If they want much more, then Z250 will go the Inazuma way !

With kawasaki entering the 250cc market. KTM, Yamaha, Bajaj will have to pull up their socks and work over time. I am sure the Z250 will not disappoint.

Am I missing something? Isnt Bajaj the one bringing Kawasaki to Indian roads? Or have they split now?

Re: Kawasaki displays Z250 street bike at Tokyo Motor Show, 2013

Thats a good question Ashwin. KTM and Kawasaki main showrooms in Bangalore share a common wall. I had read long ago that Bajaj and Kawasaki were sharing technology for bikes aimed at the indian market. I am not sure what the deal is but there is the pulsar and then the Z250 is coming soon. So competition between the two for sure. Also forgot to add Hero and Honda (individually).

Re: Kawasaki displays Z250 street bike at Tokyo Motor Show, 2013

The KTM showroom here in Nagpur is also the Kawasaki showroom And the Bajaj Probiking showroom :P So I am pretty sure Kawasaki and Bajaj have some sort of a deal. That being said Bajaj did an impressive job at protecting the 200NS from the Duke 200. Both bikes compete head to head with each other yet their customer base is clearly divided, there are very few who wanted the duke but settled for the NS and vice versa.

I think Bajaj will have a clear distinguishing line between its 250+cc line up. With the RC390 launched, Pulsar CS and SS announced and now the Z250. It is a great time to be an Indian biker for sure

Re: Kawasaki displays Z250 street bike at Tokyo Motor Show, 2013

The Z250 has design cues from the Ninja 300 and the front headlight design is from the Z800. Looks mean and sporty and if priced well, it should do well. The engine is from the 250 and is basically a fill-it-shut-it-ride-it machine.
