Harley-Davidson Street 750 for India: Unveiled @ Goa

Mod Note: Please continue the discussion on the Harley 750 Official Review Thread. Thanks!

Harley-Davidson has officially unveiled the Street 750 motorcycle at the India Bike Week '14, in Goa.

Harley-Davidson Street 750 for India: Unveiled @ Goa-street750001.jpg

'Street 750' - Launch & Pricing:
• The Street 750 will be priced less than Rupees 5 lakh on-road.
• The exact pricing will be announced at the Auto Expo in Noida in the first week of February.
• For cost reference, in the USA the Street 500 will retail at $6700 (Rs. 4.15L) and the Street 750 at $7500 (Rs. 4.64L).
• Bookings for the Street 750 open on February 5th. Deliveries start from June 2014.
• Over 40 brand new accessories have been launched for the Street 750.
• The Street 750 will use MRF tyres.
• Harley-Davidson has tied up with ICICI & HDFC for providing financing options to the buyers. Interest rates offered for Harley-Davidson bikes are the same as those offered for premium cars (as claimed). Around 50% bikes sold are financed.
• Harley-Davidson Financial Services (HDFS) will not be available in India anytime soon.
• Harley-Davidson has sold above 4000 bikes in India. Out of which 1000 HD owners were expected to be present at India Bike Week.
• The USA launch of the Street 750 will follow the India launch.

Developing & Producing the 'Street' range of Bikes:
• The initial research for the Street range of bikes started off as early as 2008.
• The Street is the 1st all new platform from Harley in the last 14 years. All new components including chassis, engine etc.
• The Street 500 & 750 bikes have no part sharing with the other bikes in the Harley-Davidson line-up.
• For the Street 500 & 750 motorcycles, a research survey was conducted between 3000 enthusiasts from 10 different countries out of which 500 entries were from India. It was a customer led project.
• Apart from the engine, the Street 750 & Street 500 will be almost identical.
• Production of the Street 500 & 750 will be in India and in the USA both. Production commences post the Auto Expo 2014.
• The Street 500 & 750 will be exported from India to other Asian countries and also some European nations.
• The Street 500 meets some licensing requirements in European nations, hence it will be launched that side of the globe before it is launched in India. The smaller-engined Street 500 will make it to India only in 2015.
• With the introduction of the Street 500 & 750, Harley-Davidson expects to ship out 7000-10000 motorcycles in the coming fiscal year, from the first 5 markets where it would be launched.

Misc Points:
• Harley-Davidson says they want to stay committed to keeping the cost of ownership low. This is one reason why they have not increased the labour costs for servicing their bikes since the last 4 years now.
• India is the only country where Harley-Davidson has set up a manufacturing facility outside of the USA.
• India is the 1st market where Harley-Davidson had set up a subsidiary since day 1.
• For bulk requirements, Harley-Davidson still depends on the US supply chain.
• As of date, in India, the Superlow and Iron 883 are the major volume sellers from the Harley stable at the lower range; the Fat Boy is a popular product in the higher range.
• August is the model year change for Harley-Davidson, so we can expect something more (new variants of existing bikes) around that time.
• Harley-Davidson currently has 13 dealerships and expects the number to go up by 3-4 dealerships in 2014.
• Despite BHPians spotting the XR1200X a few months back, there are no plans of it coming to India officially.
• No 250 cc bike plans at all, the MD says that everything we've heard is a rumour.
• Harley claims to report a growth of 10 % every quarter, in Asia.

It could be just me but the bike does not look HD in anyway. The exhaust is ghastly and the plastics atleast from the pictures look everything but Harley.

May be its just me. I love the pricing and its always smug to own a harley and this is going to create a good number of buyers in India.

Even with the compromise in quality this bike is going to sell more and may hit the iron 883 sale.

Great to hear this today and waiting for Feb 5th now

I'm not a fan of the rear overhang and its shape / styling. It makes the Street look like a confused `80s Japanese cruiser. (Evident especially on the white bike photo).

With some modifications however (chopped tail, single seat, different bars/tank, etc) it looks very Harley :

Note that they said "Manufacturing Facility".

From what i understand, the Brazil factory is a place where CKD kits (manufactured in the USA) are assembled.

More than anything the sight of those stock Pulsar type front tyres on a Harley are really killing it for me.

What little is left alive by the 200+ cc bike category mag alloy wheels.

Personally speaking, the biggest turn off for me are those MRF Nylogrip tyres . A bike that costs so much just cannot have these tyres which are seen on bikes 1/3rd the Harley's price. Though I am in no way questioning the performance of these tyres.

For me, each and every part of a cult/expensive bike, in this case Harley Davidson should stand out. And tyres do play a pivotal role in enhancing the looks of a vehicle.

Given that Michelin has just launched the Pilot Road 2 & Pilot Street bike tyres, is there a chance we could see Harley move over the Michelins, given their existing relationship?

EDIT: I guess the sizing isn't a perfect match.

Isnt there a rule in India which says all vehicle instrumentations should be in km/hr?

Re: Harley-Davidson Street 750 for India: Unveiled @ Goa

Its good news that we have the new 750 & 500 from the HD stables. But then, cutting on cost, those are the worst tyres they could have come up.
Seriously, that is what is you get for a bike costing the range of 4.64l ex showroom, hoped HD would have done something better with the tyres.
The rubber tubing for the front fork, **** reminds me of the old mopeds we used to have.
A let down on couple of fronts on the look of the bike.
Plus points, the variants in the range rather than the stock is pretty good, with the screaming eagle air intake and i see some good rubber as well.
All in all its a mixed bag from HD. Increase in sales is what HD was aiming at and they will get it.
Cheers

Re: Harley-Davidson Street 750 for India: Unveiled @ Goa

Doesn't look at all like a typical Harley. Though I am sure most people would want to own it just for the name.

The rubber tubing on the shock absorber DOES remind me of mopeds!

To be honest it looks like a normal street bike of 80-90s.

#####

The Sportster may not be a true cruiser types - and perhaps more close to street bikes - but still looks infinitely more unique and Harley than this 750 cc offering: (sportster below, and dyna behind it - which looks even more harley to me)

#####

Now THIS looks like a true Harley.
To be honest I think Harley India is plain misleading folks if this machine was used to demonstrate the sound of 750.
The question that comes automatically to me is: What is the sound of 750?

#####

So the 750 cc engine is either 25 kW or 35 kW (33 hp or 47 hp)

Understandable then the entire aura of mystery around Harley never quoting BHP figures.
