Let me know if you are doing it over a weekday. Roads would be empty and we will have the place all for ourselves. Will be keen to join you as long as you are comfortable riding with a TB 500. It might limit your speeds to 110-120 Kays at the maximum.

Hi there Hifisharu,
Have been following your thread with interest, especially your road trips. Great pics man.
Still drumming up the courage to take the plunge for my dream bike, the ST.
BTW went to the Kirti Triumph to check out the ST(umpteenth time) and noticed a new back mudguard.
I feel it has lowered the bikes appeal.
While agreeing about its utility(I think you posted about adding rear mudguard protection), I must say that buying a 9 lac bike, one wants the whole kaboodle - sexy looks,sound & performance.
While the detuned performance is OK for an average Joe like me, the new mudguard----Naah!.
Any views from BHPians?

If it is a splash guard, shouldn't it be like a couple of screws to remove to get rid of it ?

On the contrary would love to have one on mine, given the muck that is around these days

@Vicki_Rau: I stopped by the showroom to check out this new mudguard. Turns out there's no new mudguard. Just the same that had been there from before. If you mean the external flaps in the picture below, then that is removable, just a 10 min job. Plus, there are a lot of tail tidies out there, with which you can customize the look of your bike.

Seems like it's been a long time, nearly a month since I updated the thread. Since I didn't go on any long rides, I didn't have much to write about. Bike's doing well, post the third service. Rode it on some small rides, nearby just to catch up with friends. Last weekend's ride was a bit special, as Kawasaki had organised a special test ride session only for the B.R.A.Ts ( Bangalore Riders' Association of Triumph ).










Bikes on offer were the Z800, Z1000, Ninja 1000, Versys 1000 and the mighty ZX10R. Each rider was given the choice of riding two bikes they wanted to ride and bikes were allotted. Session was very well organized, with full tech support and ambulance support from Kawasaki India. I had the opportunity to ride the Z1000 and the Ninja 1000. Both great machines and my observations were as follows:

Z1000: + Very nimble, very compact for a litre class. Insane alien looks and loads of power and torque.
- Throttle very snatchy, not very smooth transition from open to closed, Very thin hard seat, not very confidence inspiring on high speed corners

N1000 + Engine packs oodles of torque for long distance touring, fairing helps mask speed and reduce wind buffeting. Very good engine heat management, wide pillion seat
- Bike feels heavy at low speeds, too many vibrations for an inline-4

All in all, a great event and a fantastic day spent riding different motorcycles

The past weekend was fantastic with a group ride to Kudremukh, in Chikamagalur, organised by the BRATs. Altogether, there were 40 bikes and 50 odd people for this ride, with some family members coming by car as well.

The route chosen was B'lore- Hassan- Belur- Kottigehara - Kalasa - Kudremukh. Final stay was at Upasana Retreat (http://www.upasanaretreat.com/). We had a guest rider in BRATs, who happened to be the resort owner himself!! An avid biker, he was running-in his new CBR 650R.

The resort location is fantastic, offering a majestic view of the hills all around. After lunch and a bit of napping, the lovely cool pool beckoned, while some indulged in Table Tennis and walks around the estate. Called it a night with fantastic food, bon fire and intro session for the new BRATs






Day 2 was waking up late, enjoying walks around the estate, feasting on the sumptuous breakfast and heading back home.



This time, I remembered to keep the camera running, for the amazing twisty roads from Kudremukh to Kottigehara, as I forgot during the onward journey
I had done the same stretch 6-7 years ago and the roads were in horrible shape then. This time however, the roads were fantastic as was the weather.

Last month, I completed more than 23000 kms on the Striple and have enjoyed every bit of it. So far, I never felt the need for a screen, as the wind blast was never an issue. I did want to improve the aesthetics of the bike a bit though and added wind protection was an added bonus. A quick search of screens for the Street Triple will yield the following as the most common ones used.

The Triumph OEM ( Cost around INR 11000)
This is the most commonly one seen and most users said it doesn't provide good wind protection



The Puig one, a popular one but I didn't like the looks of it, plus the build seemed very flimsy ( Cost around INR 13000)



The Dart Manta, users claim good wind protection, but looks very ugly IMHO


Wanting to be a bit unique, I ended up finding this:

I felt this looked the best, the lines compliment the lines of the bike and price lesser than the Puig, with seemingly better build quality. Had one of my friends bring it down from France and installed it immediately.

Installation was fairly simple. The screen comes with a bracket, which is installed between the headlights and then the screen on the bracket.

Effectiveness wise, the buffeting at cruising speeds is reduced and the wind blast on the chest is reduced. Aesthetics wise, I feel the front end looks tidier, with the mass moving upwards. Some pics from the recent ride:

Wishing to have one last hurrah before selling off White Kinght, me and two other friends embarked on an epic ride, with one goal: Most of the trip should involve twisties, with the best kind of surface. Also, to make the trip interesting, we decided to throw in a bit of sand and beach. So, there we had it, the recipe for a great ride. The route chalked out was as follows.


Day 1: Early start to avoid the city traffic, with a quick coffee break at the CCD in Bellur Cross





Here on, the plan was to stop at Bhadravati for a proper breakfast, but on the way, after Arasikere, we thought we'd head out to place I had been before; Coffee and Pepper near Lingadahalli. The road is fantastic and makes for some amazing vistas.



Back to Tarikere and headed towards Bhadravati and then Tirthhalli. From the road that deviates from Shimoga, leading to Tirthhalli is where the fun begins. Endless smooth tarmac, making its way through the Bhadra reserve. This is what epic rides are about.




After a stop at Tirthhalli for lunch, we hit what is probably the best set of twisties in Karnataka. The roads are simply made for bikers and we enjoyed them to the fullest. 3 bikes, moving in complete sync, with the Striple providing the background sound track, one word to describe it all: HEAVENLY!

Day 2: Simple plan, just ride along the coast from Kundapur to Kumta, near Gokarna. All of us had been on this road before but with the recent 4-laning going on, the road has lost it's earlier charm, with too many diversions and the road just too patchy and bumpy till Murdeshwar. I was crying in my helmet for having brought a bike with sport suspension to such road. Thankfully, the road got better and I heaved a sigh of relief. After yesterday's epic smooth twisties, this was simply torture :( So bad that I didn't even bother turning on the action cam. Coupled with the humid and hot weather, it was more of an endurance ride, though we rode only for 40kms. The road does still have some upsides to it

Day 3: Riding back home, we decided to give the Kumta - Sirsi route a try. Read reports that the ghat roads had been done up recently and that the route had almost no traffic. We were in for a treat, superb roads devoid of traffic, great morning weather and the company of close friends.









Stopped at Sirsi for breakfast and had a sumptuous Masala Dosa breakfast at Hotel Satkar. Had heard that the Sirsi Siddapura Sagara route was in great shape, and indeed it was. 2 lane roads, with very sparse traffic and terrific surface.




Even the Siddapura Sagara route was great, till Shimoga except for the annoying speed breakers while entering Shimoga. Speed breakers are well marked but just too many rumbler strips. Also, one has to watch out for heavy vehicles behind, as they don't slow down for these humps

Once we entered Shimoga, we found our way to Chitradurga and made the biggest error of our ride. If the road between Kundapura and Murdeshwar was bad, this was simply horrendous. Many places road widening is going on and only gravel filled single lanes are present. Cursing our intel on not finding about this construction, we trudged on and finally reached Chitradurga. From here on, it was smooth sailing on the NH4 and we headed home by nightfall and thanked our stars for not having even a single mishap or even a puncture. It truly was and will be an epic ride for me to cherish and remember for times to come.

Since I'm in the process of selling the bike, one of my close friend's had requested for it and I found that the bike is more nimble with the screen off, hence decided to take it off for this ride. This ride was also mostly two lane roads, with low speeds, hence the screen wouldn't make much of a difference wind protection wise.

Not per se related to my ownership but just thought I'd update the status here:

So, after a hiatus of nearly 1.5 years, I completed my European Motorcycle license and went in for a test ride of the new 765 Street Triple. Triumph Stuttgart had the RS version for a test ride and the experience was just fantastic. Was handed over the keys after small formalities such as taking copies of the license, identity proof etc. Instructions were to ride anywhere I pleased, come back in 30-45 min and top up the fuel. As I had not really planned where I would go, I just went for a spin around 20 kms near by and from the moment I set=off, was grinning from ear to ear. Here are my observation from the test ride:

1) Clutch is now super light, with the slipper clutch addition, very easy to operate
2) With the ride by wire, the throttle response is just immediate and fantastic
3) Didn't test out the riding modes much and the weather conditions were just too good to evaluate TC and other mode specific details
4) New TFT dash looks great and performed without any hiccups
5) Bike was fitted with a Bodis exhaust and that new motor just sounds amazing. Just open the throttle and hear her sing.

Winter time is soon approaching and I will be deferring my bike purchase plans till spring of 2018, till then, more test rides and evaluation

I took a short-ish test ride of the Street Triple 765 S here, and I do like it. The bike feels very light and nimble for a quarter liter size, the throttle response, sound and refinement are all great, that coolant tank is relocated to a less vulnerable place - it does address what I perceived as the weaknesses in the outgoing 675 Street Triple.

Not smitten by the bug eye looks but easily can live with those. What I'm really looking forward to, is how the RS is tuned and priced. It has top spec Brembo M50s and fully adjustable suspension, things I tend to place significant importance in. It's not launched here yet, but I think that might just be the bike I really needed. Maybe another 15-20 hp would have nice.
