2015 Yamaha R1 - Revealed!

Came across these pictures of what's claimed to be the all-new 2016 Yamaha R1 on Facebook.

It doesn't look like a rendering and since there was no source mentioned in the post, I'm unable to confirm it's even legit.

Specs aside, if this is indeed the real deal, I'm guessing the headlamps alone will spark a controversy of it's own.

Thoughts?

Definitely correct pictures! It looks just like a road version of the M1. And that probably explains the weird headlight position.

What's spectacular is the wet weight of 199kgs, for a bike developing 200 horses at the crank.

EDIT: For people who missed the live feed, Vale came out with the R1 and Lorenzo came out with the R1M. Adding a couple of screenshots.

Some pictures that I chanced upon. Please feel free to feast your eyes.

I personally love the new look. Looks fresh and different from the same design philosophy that the R1 has had since its inception.

Apologies as my edit time is over, I've had to do back to back posts. Mods please merge if feasible.

re: 2015 Yamaha R1 - Revealed!

Well, for me, the headlights are a deal breaker. The rest of the body looks more or like the current gen R1. What are the engine specs ?

A day old and it's already growing on me.

re: 2015 Yamaha R1 - Revealed!

Here are the technical specs of the new R1.

Highlights
• New 998cc crossplane in-line 4-cylinder, 4-valve engine
• 200PS without ram air
• Large capacity 10.5 litre airbox
• Titanium 4-2-1 exhaust
• Lightweight assist and slipper clutch
• Newly designed asymmetric aluminium Deltabox frame
• 1405mm wheelbase
• 199kg wet weight / 179kg dry weight
• Lightweight cast-magnesium wheels
• ABS with Yamaha Unified Brake System

Very happy to see the electronics package in the new R1,Now it can give some serious competition to the european/italian counterparts!

When i saw the images first,i dint like the front end a bit especially the placement of headlights. But it looks "OK" to me now.Looks like the design will slowly grow on you

re: 2015 Yamaha R1 - Revealed!

To me, the front looks like an amalgamation of the MTT Y2K and the recently introduced Kawasaki H2R.

The Yamaha R1 is a road bike. It has been for close to two decades now.

The newly added variant, R1'M' will be a track spec variant for customers, I reckon. Kinda like the Ferrari 458 Challenge.

It should be launched in India soon after the European launch and I believe would be priced in the 20 lac ballpark.

Re: 2015 Yamaha R1 - Revealed!

Is it just me or are motorcycle styling trends going down the drain ? The best looking motorcycles are still from mid-1990s to early 2000s, with an occasional beauty now and then since 2005 ?

Anyhow, I like the new R1 more than the bug-eyed 2009-2014 generation. Not a fan of the big-bang motor sound though. What I am disappointed with, is the hype generated about 230hp , as with the Kawasaki H2, which the road version is at least closer to this. Besides, the 1:1 power:weight ratio is also old, back in 2004 when they claimed 172kg and 172hp , which turned out to be dry weight as the magazine tests found the effective kerb weight around 200kg anyway.

I see hints of H2 and M1 styling on the new R1, while the exhaust looks borrowed for a Gixxer , and the slim tail light looks like Aprilia RSV-Mille ?

Re: 2015 Yamaha R1 - Revealed!

The R1 has always been known for its Mantis like front. The current model looks perfectly like a mantis. However, the 2015 model looks like a 'sad' mantis IMO.

Whoa! Good one scorcher!

Have mixed reactions. The entire styling looks spot on except the front. 2007 model was the best! The headlamp position is weird. Atleast for me. The specs are sweet. Finally!!

2015 Yamaha R1 & R1M European prices disclosed

Yamaha has revealed the prices of the 2015 YZF-R1 & R1M in Europe. The R1 is priced at €18,495 (INR 14.11 Lakh approx.) Unveiled at EICMA, the 2015 YZF R1 is powered by an in-line 4-cylinder engine that displaces 998 cc. It retains the crossplane crankshaft and produces over 197 bhp @ 13,500 rpm, while the peak torque is 112.4 Nm @ 11,500 rpm. The new R1 is around 8 kgs lighter than the outgoing model, produces an additional 17 bhp, while torque is down by around 3 Nm. The 2015 R1 gets features like a new TFT dashboard screen, lean angle sensitive traction control, full throttle launch control, linked ABS, 4 stage lift control and a quick shift system.

Yamaha also launched the 2015 YZF-R1M which is priced at €22,995 (INR 17.52 Lakh approx.) The R1M is largely based on the R1, but supposedly loses weight by using carbon fibre in the body work. According to the official site though, the R1M's wet weight is around 1 kg more than the R1's. Along with the carbon fibre fairing, the R1M gets gadgetry in the form of an Ohlins electronic suspension that takes data from the bike's inertial measurement unit (IMU) to adjust rebound and compression damping. The limited production model also gets a data logging GPS system that can be used via an iOS or Android app.

Deliveries of both motorcycles in European markets will take place in the first half of C.Y 2015. Reports suggest that the 2015 R1's Indian debut will take place in early 2015, while the R1M is unlikely to be offered.

Re: 2015 Yamaha R1 - Revealed!

I will leave the head lights alone but I cannot. It makes the Desmo D16RR and its head lights look like a marriage made in heaven.

I have had a soft corner for Yamahas - esp. in racing since they have been a perennial underdog to the might of HRC in engineering prowess. But make no mistake - YZR 500s from the Rainey era and the OW01/02s (FZRR and R7) were gorgeous as hell. R1 when it was introduced was a revelation (did not match the punch of the 916 by any means but Tamburini never worked for Yamaha) - on track at ultra fast Willow Springs the R1 out shadowed the aging 996 - Racer / Moto journalist Curtis Adams lapped almost a second faster on the R1 (god I wish I had saved all the magazines) - the R1 replaced the mighty but outdated FZR1000.

Enough Banter. Seriously.

Like the MotoGP like top triple. OK the M has Ohlins electronic suspension like the Panigale S/R. Is this the first Yamaha road going production bike to use Ohlins since the R7? The vanilla R1 has a fully adj Kayaba forks (Yamaha owns 3x% of KYB - they used to own a part of Ohlins before Ohlins bought their stake back)

The motor has staggering numbers tamed by staggering Software. (Even more Squarish bore stroke for the M - Ducati even call's their motor super squadro) For people interested in staggering numbers take a look at the superleggera.

Ugly CC in the belly pan area. Radiator looks serious enough for a race bike - like it. CF on the M is cool. If I was going to plunk down 20k+USD, and was looking for this kind of performance, I would buy a used 1199R. But would I buy an R7 instead - hell yes. I know I neither have the skill nor the balls to ride the R1 anywhere close to its limits. I know that is not the point since I cannot ride the R7 to its limit either - but the R7 will remain a classic and the R1 will be a run off the mill crotch rocket.

krishna
