Some more good news for the tourers,

Quote:

India Kawasaki Motors (IKM) has rolled out its globally popular one-litre tourer, the Versys 1000 in the local market today.

The bike, which will be imported into India as completely built units (CBUs) from Japan, is powered by Kawasaki’s reputed liquid-cooled, four-stroke, in-line four-cylinder, 1043cc engine.
Mated with a six speed transmission, this engine is capable of churning out a maximum power output of close to 120bhp.

As a CBU, the bike will cost Rs 12,90,000 (ex-showroom, Pune). The Versys 1000 becomes the sixth superbike in IKM’s portfolio with other five models being the Ninja 1000, Ninja ZX-10R, Ninja ZX-14R, Z1000 and Z800, all of which are imported into India as CBUs.
Engine Specs:

Maximum power: 88.2 kW (120 PS) / 9,000 rpm
Maximum torque: 102.0 N.m (10.4 kgf.m) / 7,500 rpm

Any news if the Versys 650 is going to be launched here? That one makes a lot more sense to me as a touring bike for India.

Spotted the Versys 1000 along with its stabelmates being given a wash on occasion of the festival yesterday.
I was walking past the Indiranagar Kawasaki showroom when I saw this mammoth on the footpath and I had to stop and gape for a while after which I started chatting with the store in charge.

The Versys 650 should be out next month as mentioned elsewhere in the forum .Speculated price around 7.5 laks

Rode this last month. Costs around 16lac!
It is a big and tall bike but I could manage it. I also took it through some bad roads at some good speeds coz I got used to the bike in few minutes. Its smooth and brakes ok etc but I expected more music for a 4cylinder.

Now officially discontinued, though it was always unofficially off the showrooms since an year -
