Ninja R2 - Et tu Kawasaki?

Reports on various automobile websites are carrying the news that Kawasaki has patented the moniker Ninja R2 in the United States of America. The motorcycle that will carry this name is not known yet, so speculation ranges from a supercharged ZX-14 to a new supercharged 250 cc motorcycle. Nice, very mouth watering, the prospects that is, but why has Kawasaki decided to break into Yamaha nomenclature? While R and RR at the end of the name like ZX-10 R or CBR 1000 RR have been around, prefixing the R before a numeral as in R1, R6, R15, R25, R3 have been more or less the exclusive style of Yamaha. So what is Kawasaki upto now? Hope time will solve this mystery sooner than later.
