Benelli is way too heavy n bulky for average Indian (my view) n no ABS so I think even if little expensive versys will be a better bike.

Regarding fuel tank capacity 20 ltr is also not bad may be just 1 or 2 place in India which have fuel bunks 300km away from each other including Manali Leh route, so 20 ltr with appx range of 400 km is good enough.

I am myself 5' 11" n towards hefty side (90 kg) n Benelli GT with full tank of fuel was not a great handler in my experience. So considering average Indian build in my view Versys with 20 ltr tank is a better option.

Add to that the massive service network Kawasaki have for their CKDs. And it is a far better machine than the abomination called GT.

600 GT is huge, visually as well as weight wise. Given the nature of inline 4 and also confirmed via reviews, the bike makes peppy power/torque to at higher revs, which may not be ideal for the touring under Indian conditions. The inline 4 exhaust is also muted for touring comfort, compared to its naked sibling (still sounds great though). Lack of ABS as point out earlier would play a deal breaker for some. Also, somewhere deep within, 'made in china' tag coupled with DSKs limited service network would be some other points. Personally, except the exhaust note, i would favour the versys.

Re: Kawasaki Versys 650 - Coming to India?

When would be the earliest Kawasaki give out test rides?

Also, any news on which colors are going to be offered here in India? Yellow looks cool and different, would be a breath of fresh air from green

Otherwise the white/black combination looks best

yellow is been discontinued for 2016, i guess. Dont think they would offer many colours here as sales figure for 6-7L bike would be limited and inventory management for colour based spared would be an issue. White is what i was rooting for, but chances look dim. 2nd choice would be green as black is highly prone to showing dust/dirt.
More then colour, was hoping they have launch the LT as variant. Benelli 600gt has options with/without luggage box. Panniers, hand guard, aux lights and a charger would be nice to have. Kawasaki aren't very generous with test rides. :(

What is the approx mileage we can expect for the versys?

Also, how come only i seem to be excited about the launch? Aren't others interested too? Is the bike not exciting enough? i remember there was a hoard of people waiting and counting days with bated breath for 390s launch with excitement all around. This time it feels lonely which is mildly scary.

In fact have been waiting for a midsized touring machine which can take two up with decent luggage space since ages.
Have been following RE Himalayan also...
But it's almost certain RE is launch its sometime away n size wise that's going to be a notch down.
Presently I use a Honda CBR 250R for my short commutes n intend keeping that baby also so power wise wanted something lil bigger.

So am almost locked to Versys 650.
Just had a word with one of the Kawa dealer yesterday n they have started accepting booking.
He also confirmed about only black-grey color being avbl initially.

Even I'm eagerly awaiting the launch.
As far as the colours are concerned we have three conflicting inputs:
@anilp said that dealers have told him its only green aka candy lime for India
@techfreak said its black and grey
While the recent Thai motor show which showcased the versys for India was orange

I'm just hoping we have a choice of at least two. I think they should be able to inventory manage just two colours.

I would go for the LT if it's offered. I'm sure the individual hand guards and panniers would cost more.

Re: Kawasaki Versys 650 - Coming to India?

@ techfreak & Jet-thrust:
Good to know.

Is there any confirmation of the 24th launch by Kawasaki officials? Everywhere there is only mention of "according to report"...
There is no news of Versys 650 on the Kawa india site, not even as coming soon. Just wondering...

LT definitely makes more sense as getting those accessories otherwise would be a big pain and expensive on our own. Alternatively, we could always look at aftermarket accessories available around for hand guard, 12v socket, led aux lights, protectors etc. Hope they are not very strict with warranty norms. For luggage, there is always the good old cramster stallion. Plus a good new tank bag will do the job.

The Kawasaki website has been updated to include the Versys 650.
The bike shown is black grey.
I guess that puts all doubts about the color to rest.
Personally, I think it looks good.
