Re: Harley-Davidson owners protest against life-threatening Street 750 brakes

Just buy a better bike than this which has better brakes. I havent seen other bike owners making so much fuss about such an issue.

I don't know what buyers were thinking buying a 230 kilo bike with no ABS, lowest model of the Harley stable. D390 is a very sensible choice save the pillion seat and the tail vibrator.

Article in today's Mumbai Mirror :

Cruiser dream turns sour for owners

Quote:
The Indian arm of an iconic American motorcycle company is at the receiving end of biking enthusiasts’ ire. Over 200 owners of the Harley-Davidson Street 750 from across the country have claimed that the cruiser’s brakes and other parts are not on par with other Harley products. 30 of these owners, who are based in Mumbai, plan to stage a protest outside the Harley-Davidson showroom in Bandra.

I find the line - the cruiser’s brakes and other parts are not on par with other Harley products - to be hilarious. I half expect the next issue to be the engine isn't as powerful as the top of the range.

Re: Harley-Davidson owners protest against life-threatening Street 750 brakes

A friend of mine hired an 883 Sportster recently in Europe.

Riding 2 up in the mountains he repeatedly lost rear brake completely during downhill descent sections, it just faded away until pressing the pedal resulted in no noticeable reduction in speed. After 10 minutes parked or riding flat or uphill, it had cooled off again it was back to normal.

Just wanted to report this here in case you 883 guys were thinking this can only happen to the 750! The disc design of the 883 is fairly solid and will not dissipate heat well.

We just thought this was 'par for the course' for what the bike is designed to do really, which is cruise in straight lines rather than be ridden hard.

An IAF officer, Wg Cdr Agnihotri was riding this when apparently brakes failed while coming down from Kasauli. It will be anybody's guess if brakes were the actual cause but given the reported issues by other owners, it can indeed be the reason.

Got this message in my whatsapp riding group today, forwarded from one of the HOG groups -

Quote:
Riders today morning we lost a IAF officer Wg Cdr Agnihotri. he was riding a Harley Street 750 and his brakes failed while coming down from Kasauli.

Request all riders not to apply constant brakes while riding their Harleys or big bikes as the brakes get hot they get free.....
