Re: Yamaha MT-09. Edit: Launched at 10.2L ex-Delhi

Yamaha MT-09 launched at Rs 10.88 lakh

Source - https://www.autocarindia.com/bike-ne...88-lakh-406666

Yamaha has launched its updated MT-09 in India at Rs 10.88 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Like the outgoing model, the new naked street fighter is a CBU import but it is about Rs 48,000 cheaper than its predecessor.

The new MT-09 gets the same design-based changes that were seen on the model that was showcased at last year’s Intermot motor show, in Germany. It now gets LED lights, new fins for the radiator, larger air scoops and also new rear view mirrors. The rear fender is mounted onto the single-sided swingarm and the tail-lamp has been integrated into the body. The sub-frame is now 30mm shorter at the rear.

The Japanese manufacturer has also tweaked the front suspension for better damping, installed a quick shifter for the six-speed transmission, added an assist and slip clutch and put in a new seat. The 847cc, three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, which develops 115hp and 87.5Nm of peak torque remains unchanged.

The MT-09 is available in three colour options – Bluish Gray Solid, Deep Purplish Blue and Matte Dark Gray. With a price tag of Rs 10.88 lakh, the CBU-import MT-09 is substantially more expensive than the CKD-import Triumph Street Triple S (Rs 8.7 lakh) and Kawasaki Z900 (Rs 7.6 lakh). It is, in fact, more expensive than even the recently-launched, 123hp, Triumph Street Triple RS, which is priced at Rs 10.55 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). While the MT-09 has ample merit to justify a purchase, its relatively steep price tag will pose a challenge to its sales performance.

Haven't seen a single machine on the road till date. Wonder if it's selling at all!

Not that I would be surprised if it isn't selling, considering the price tag.

Yamaha must have taken a challenge to ensure they do not sell even 1 machine in India market. I will buy 1 only because i am a fan of yamaha. Viz-a-Viz offerings from other manufacturers will only question ones logic of buying the MT-09.

Definitely over priced purely because of competition offerings.

I see a Yamaha MT-09 almost every sunday, the owner stays very close by and rides frequently. A nice sweet looking motorcycle but way too overpriced IMO.

There are two MT-09's in Pune at the moment.

Re: Yamaha MT-09. Edit: Launched at 10.2L ex-Delhi

Is this better than Z900 or Striple S, in case of handling and power ?

Have anyone TD this ?

I fail to understand why have they priced this steep when compared to the competitors!

Can't seem to find many English comparisons online. Here's two that are easy to follow with subtitles.

It's a good bike no doubt and gives a tough fight to the others, but price is the single biggest issue.

A case of killer pricing wherein the price kills the product. Should've used the CKD route.
The rear fender (swingarm mounted) is an eyesore as well. No wonder all the pics of the bike are from the right side.

The rear fender for better view. The above two pictures dont do justice.

But i think it provides a nice place for mounting camera for action better than stock fenders.

Yamaha MT-09. Edit: Launched at 10.2L ex-Delhi-mt094.jpg

Yamaha has made minor changes to the design of the new MT-09. The bike features a twin eye headlamp cluster with 4 LED lamps up front and revised mirrors. The turn signals have been repositioned lower beside the radiator. It gets larger air scoops and a new radiator shroud. Online reviews praise the hooligan nature of the engine but the suspension is supposed to be the let down of the bike. However with the atrocious pricing in India - dont think Yamaha is going to sell even in double digits in a year

This should make the MT-09 a very interesting option.

https://news.maxabout.com/bikes/yama...price-dropped/

So now it will be closer to the Street Triple S and quite a bit cheaper than the RS.

Re: Yamaha MT-09. Edit: Launched at 10.2L ex-Delhi

I checked with Monarch Automobiles and the OTR in Pune for MT 09 is now 11.95lacs. If the bookings are made by 28th Mar, the delivery will happen by 1st week of July. Seems pretty competitive to me - just no bikes for test rides or even disaplay. Am tempted - the booking amount is 1lac and the rest is when the bikes land from Japan!

Why not put the money down on the Z900 instead? The higher volumes usually imply a better after sales experience (easy local availability of spares), you get the bike on immediate delivery and you also save close to 2 lacs between the two.
Also, a little lower on the power and price, why not check out the CBR 650F, it looks brilliant in the new color scheme, has a decent pillion seat, Honda's after sales experience is reportedly among the best and you save a further 2 lacs to the Z900!

Hey Manmeet - How are you? The Z900 doesn't have that pillion seat i really need else it absolutely has everything i want and some more!. And the CBR650F somehow just didn't excite me. I think i can survive something mad and edgy for 5 more years (like the Z900) before i move to a bike like the N1000 or GS850 kinds. ///M mentioned there are 2 MT-09s in Pune - i found an old thread - so am going to reach out to him and try n speak to them. Else am still hunting for a Monster 821 for under 8lacs.
