Re: Suzuki starts local assembly of Hayabusa. Price - Rs. 13.57 lakh

Suzuki Motorcycle to focus on premium bikes and scooters in India, has charted out an ambitious plan to sell one million vehicles per annum by 2020.

Quote:
It is even toying with the idea of manufacturing smaller versions of its famous big bike GSX out of India.

Suzuki is likely to bring in a cruiser motorcycle, a bigger 150 cc scooter, some of which could be in the above 150-400 cc range.

Suzuki is considering if it can make smaller versions of its famous big bike GSX in a 250 cc or 400 cc avataar –– and use India as a global base for its export.
Quote:
Since we are a late entrant, we need to have a different approach. Our immediate focus is on the fast-growing scooter space and premium motorcycles. Our aim is to grab 10% share in the segments that we operate. Once we reach scale, then we may look at mass market

Sounds like generic text replaced with some numbers that you want to be specific - all the manufacturers at the bottom end of the pyramid use this once every 2 years or so. Its so hard to believe the likes of Suzuki. At one point, i used to think that these bikes are not mainstream so no one wants to manufacture them here. Then Bajaj came along with Kawasaki, then KTM and it suddenly started dawning on others - hey, this makes perfect sense if you setup decent A.S.S. Suzuki is almost 3yrs behind even Triumph in realizing this!

Suzuki needs to get its act together. They have many good bikes in their stable which can be made viable for India for the actual leisure touring market that they hope to capture. That they have gone with the Hayabusa initially, is not a very good idea imho because that bike is too impractical for actual touring. Just a opinion.

Cheers...
