2016 Triumph Thruxton R launched at Rs 10.9 lakh

Triumph Motorcycles today launched the new, 2016 Thruxton R cafe racer in India.

Priced at 10.9 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi, the Thruxton R has a wonderful retro looking shape, top-notch cycle parts like the Ohlins suspension, Brembo monoblock brakes, Ride-by-Wire Tech, etc. Then there's the improved dynamics and efficiency as per many reviews & claims. Above all its such a sweet looking cafe racer.

The author of this article mentioned in his Facebook post, "Possibly the most beautiful motorcycle to make its debut in 2016".

Well, one look at the Thruxton R and I can't agree more !

Triumph Motorcycles has expanded its new-generation Bonneville family in India by launching the Thruxton R at Rs 10.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new cafe racer motorcycle was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year; it was among the most beautiful bikes on display at the automotive event. The bike's styling is typical to any cafe racer but it is the details that help make the motorcycle standout. The bar-end style mirrors, Monza-style fuel-filler cap, curvy fuel tank, beefy gold finish USD forks and spoke wheels give it an aura of exclusivity.

Beautiful looking cafe racer. Those R Specs are really worth the price but it starts getting into the litre class sports and touring bike pricing and basically more options at that price point.

Going to be a niche purchase but comes completely loaded with features. The black will look awesome with those ohlins

Wow, that's a good price.

I can see some potential street twin buyers switching to this one.

Re: 2016 Triumph Thruxton R launched at Rs 10.9 lakh

Has to be one of the most beautifully sculpted motorcycles I've seen of late. Every millimetre of this machine oozes of nostalgia. This bike isn't a forced cafe racer. It's just a natural one, from whichever dimension you look at it.

I feel it's been priced really well and will attract a lot of Street Twin customers towards itself. I eagerly hope that it becomes a success.

And yes, I simply can't wait to take one for a spin!

Looking at the below picture - Source is Zigwheels - It does appear not too aggressive and can be managed for those long rides. Love the retro and the quality it offers. I already like the GT from RE which has the BEST brakes ever in RE and now can understand its price point.

I know its a different segment but the scrambler value only went up considering this price.

I don't understand the point of a cafe racer. What exactly is it? Get a true blue racer or a cruiser. Why take a middle path? It's an expensive and niche product which will only be a heart purchase.

And that front headlight fairing is plain hideous. Remove that and it looks quite good. Royal Enfield have taken quite an inspiration from this.

The photo is of the standard Thruxton. The Thruxton is more purpose built with those lovely gold plated Ohlins USD forks, better brakes etc which makes it a much better handler.

You would find in the below video, the Thruxton R has a slightly more difficult riding position.

Re: 2016 Triumph Thruxton R launched at Rs 10.9 lakh

The green Triumph Thruxton in the pic above is the older aircooled 865cc 270deg parallel twin. It was sold in India.

The new one now launched in India is the water cooled 1200cc mil. It is a CKD IIRC. To me, this is undoubtedly one of the best looking motorcycles in production today. Only a test drive can determine if has the soul of a Triumph too.

Beauty isn't just skin deep, but I must admit to shamelessy leering at this one!

Cheers,
Sting

That the Photo of the OLD 865 CC Thruxton. Photo of the latest 1200 cc Thruxton R is posted below.

The Ducati Scrambler is a totally different kind of bike. Can't really compare it with the Thrxton R. Even the Triumph Street Twin and T120 is totally different than the Thruxton R.

Apart from the styling and the way the engine delivers power, the most significant difference between the other mentioned models and the Thruxton R is the Seating Position - The Thruxton R like a true Cafe Racer has an aggressive and sporty riding stance.

In plain simple terms the "Cafe Racer" is the Progenitor of the Modern Super Sports bike. Just google "Cafe Racer" to know more about it.

It's a niche / collector's item and not every man's cup of tea.

Looks absolutely drool worthy! Is there a rear seat under the cowl?

Thruxton is a total drool 'maal'! Here are a few shots from the Auto Expo...

But the Cafe Racer seating position is not for all, very similar to Continental GT to bring things in perspective, which had given me wrist pain in less than 30 kms when I last rode it. So I could never see such a bike in my garage from a riding point of view. But looks are a killer!

Cheers...

Forget about the seating man. That video and those winding roads and the way the bike roared away. Ultimately some ride for that and the seating position is suited for short runs for sure and some do take them out for long rides but they are remotely not comfortable as tourers like the Versys.

I had the GT for a week and no matter what i kept going back to riding that bike for its just worth the pain

Well, I am not a fanboy to overlook the basics. And I don't feel that the Versys is a complete package either for the price. Comfort is primary for my riding pleasure as my experience has taught me that occasional bursts of performance does wear off after a couple of rides. Our highways demand a relaxed rider with comfortable seating and a competent bad road suspension which imho the Thruxton lacks. But the looks, I reiterate, are to die for. It will remain a leisure bike for short bursts for the egocentrics with cash in their pockets. And will have a very limited but totally niche mass appeal just like our heavier Harleys.

Cheers...

Re: 2016 Triumph Thruxton R launched at Rs 10.9 lakh

The standard Thruxton R will not come with that faring which the initial post shows. Bike manufacturers are trying interesting ways to make money and leave many essential bits of body work as 'accessories' I was in for a rude shock when I realised that I will need to shell out almost 30k for the bottom cowl and crown on my Street Triple. Even the basic Karizma and my ex Hero Honda Ambition came with these, just a scummy way to make money IMHO.

I absolutely love the bike, but just cannot trust Triumph India again after the what I've been through as a owner . And especially seeing that they are more than happy to leave their owners in lurch and risk their lives. Triumph Stalling Issue
