Glemseck 101: Pics of Custom Motorcycles

This news article piqued my interest, as it came up in one of the Triumph forums I'm a member of ( honorary member, since I sold of my beloved Street Triple :( )

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2...20-bonneville/

As I read up on the article, I saw that this was going to be unveiled somewhere in Germany, named Glemseck. Just out of curiosity, I searched up the location of this place and turns out, this place was less than 20 kms from my house There, my weekend plan was set and what an event it was!!

I had to be content with attending the event with my cycle, as I'm yet to get an EU motorcycle license but vowed to myself next year I'll attend it astride my own motorcycle. The venue for the event is nestled inside a forest region and the roads leading up to it are pure motorcycling bliss. Smooth winding roads, that rise and fall and also used to be a part of the Grand Prix circuit some time in the 50s. Actually, it so happens that a part of this circuit, the straight bit is what is used for the drag events at Glemseck 101. Here's what lay before my eyes:

The first few pics are bikes in the parking lot and they themselves were eye candy enough

Biker themed barber shop, you know, just in case your hair grew too long for the show

The main stay of the event is the customised Cafe Racer bikes and other than the Harleys or Bonnevilles which are conventional base bikes for Cafe racers, bikes the XJR 1200 and the BMW R9T seemed to be favorites as well

Minimalist instrumentation and lots of custom paint jobs

One of the custom bikes that really caught my eye and I felt the execution was truly great!!

It looks like a rusty old bike from one side

re: Glemseck 101: Pics of Custom Motorcycles

Royal Enfield has quite a fan following in Germany and here was one custom Bullet, called the Dirty Duck

The rest of the pics are custom bikes from a range of companies, like Moto Guzzi, Norton, MV Augusta and including the big daddy of bikes, the Boss Hoss!!

BMW had also showcased the soon to be released in India BMW 310R

The bike seemed really well built and a great bike for newbies and experienced riders alike. BMW might have a winner on their hands, provided it is priced sensibly.

And as with any event in Germany, the police have a jolly good time being a part of the festivities.

The entire event is a 3 day affair, including various contests, music show, drag races and overnight camping in the forest, all of which I look forward to be attending the next year.

Sounds like a fun event.

Just out of curiosity, how big/small did the BMW G310R look compared to say the KTM Duke 390?

Size wise, it was almost the same as the Duke 390 and the banana seat gives more space to find a comfortable stance, which I found lacking in the Duke 390
