EICMA: Honda reveals 2017 CBR650F and CB650F

Source: MCN

Honda have updated the CBR650F middleweight (and its naked sibling CB650F) for 2017 - both get a little sharper with some engine tweaks.

Key Highlights:

- Inline-4 now makes 89.8 bhp (a 4 bhp power increase)
- Updated front forks (Showa Dual Bending Valve)
- Uprated Nissin calipers
- Led Headlamps with revised headlamp cluster design
- Revised exhaust internals - Louder!
- 3 color schemes (Millenium Red, Pearl Metalloid White, Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic)
`
Not sure when the updated bike will be launched in India (mid 2017 perhaps?). I'm expecting a slight price bump in true Honda style.

Some pics below:

The Millenium Red color scheme. Bummed from the 2017 blade. I still prefer solid shades though

Led Headlamps and updated headlamp cluster. Looks more aggressive than older model. The scoop below the headlamp channels air to the air-intake duct.

Check out the blacked out engine and swingarm

Side view. the front beak profile is also updated compared to the older version

Love the rear end. The 2017 gets a clear LED tail-light

Notice the slightly updated exhaust design. "the dual-pass internal structure (rather than triple-pass) in the muffler, reducing back pressure – before belching its gasses from a larger end can exit..." Meaning the new exhaust should be comparatively louder. I'll try and swap this onto my 2015 650F if the cost is decent. Hey HMSI, give us old customers a subsidized upgrade option!

The black color scheme. Just to mess around, Honda limits the color schemes offered in different markets. Europe and the US may not get the same schemes. India i'm guessing will get only a single scheme as usual. Not sure if the Pearl Metalloid White scheme being offered in 2017 will be the same as the current one with the same name.

Same old guage cluster. Honda could have got one of those better looking digital ones available on even their smaller models (CBR500R). Missed opportunity perhaps. Or maybe they want to save it for the full model refresh in a few years.

41mm Showa Dual Bending Valve (SDBV) Whats with the deluge of acronyms these days? These new forks upfront apparently offer better ride-quality and handling than the older model. Hmm.

Pics of the naked CB650F. More or less the same bike as the faired CBR. Weighs 5 kgs less. Not sure if HMSI will consider bringing it here.

From what I was told, the stock exhaust of the current bike costed 54K.

Oh dang it. I had my hopes up for a short while. The cost should be similar for the 2017 model as well. For that kinda money, I'd rather spend a little more and get an Akra full system (like you ). Probably when the warranty runs out...

The gold-ish colored exhaust manifolds on the current model look better than the chrome on the new one IMO.

This again became a huge mystery for me. I very specifically remember, that when CBR650F was launched, it had golden pipes. My bike came with golden pipes, but now even the current model has normal silver steel like looking pipes. When I was getting my Akra installed, I was discussing this with the Honda guy, that I will miss the Golden pipes and he said what Golden pipes. He showed me a new bike in showroom and to my surprise it had silver pipes.

My akras became slight golden over time after heating and that is what Honda guy told me, that stock exhaust become golden after heating but they don't come Golden from factory to which I still don't agree.

You remember how your pipes were when you took the delivery?

Its the same pipe actually. When your bike was new, it resembled the chrome-ish color as shown in the pics. A few weeks of heat and cold cycle and your exhaust turned to a goldish hue. You didn't notice it because the slit is a bit small on the faired CBR model. Its easy to see the color change over time on the naked CB we don't get.

I just love the looks and overall package of the CBR 650. If only they had priced it a little better. I wonder if the updated will only push the price here higher. :-(

Current one costs 8.61L Mumbai, I think new one will touch 9L mark. The update to the console would have been a welcome change. Definitely a missed opportunity.

Haha. The mystery of the golden pipes. Thanks for clarifying Nithesh. This seems to a neat little chemical trick. Not sure if it was intentional by Honda, but hey, the golden hue adds to the look.

@Rachit - No clue man. I was always under the impression that the pipes were gold-ish.

Found an additional pic. Notice the brown clutch/ crankcase cover. And those open gaps/ slots in the side panels under the seat. Wonder what the functionality is.

No functionality, its more aesthetics. You can swap that part with your existing bike if you want to. Maybe the holes reduce the weight by a few tiny grams.

Guess you can expect it in few months coz I think they are trying to sell off current stock at a great new price.

I believe they are expecting deliveries of the all new CBR 650 sometime around October 2017 with bookings to start in September.
