Forget Kawasaki, this has the potential to be India's bike superbike to sell in numbers. They can very well manufacture the bike here for exports like they do with the smaller Dukes.

Oh, how this bike is going to be the perfect companion for the twisties. That light weight chassis and 100 hp motor is going to be a hoot to ride. Bridges the gap perfectly between the starter 390 and the satanic 1290. Bring it here already KTM.

Looks like there might be some truth to this if this article is to be believed.

Launch looks to be round the corner.

The motorcycle which was expected sometime in 2019, may be launched right after Diwali this year, from what OVERDRIVE has learned. Dealerships across India have already begun accepting bookings for the 790 Duke for an amount of Rs 30,000. But wait there's more. From what OVERDRIVE knows, the parallel-twin-engined 790 Duke will come in under Rs 9 lakh (on-road)!

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

For it to be priced around 9L INR, the ex-showroom will be around 7.3-7.5L, isn't that a bit too much?
It'll be dangerously close to Kawasaki Z900, Suzuki GSX-750S and Honda CBR 650F. The Honda is an interesting case, though the exshowroom price is close to Z900 and GSX-S, the OTR is around 8.5L atleast in Bombay.

Color me stupid but I was hoping this would cost under 7L OTR considering this will be made in India and KTM is known to offer VFM products atlteast for it's customers in India.

Add to it all those are inline 4, even i was expecting KTM to play the price card right and price it close to Ninja 650. At 9+ lacs OTR, it will be a tough sell, though probably maintaining it will be cheaper then the other three.

Fantastic bike! 5-6 lacs would be the ideal price for this bike. The bike aint good at posergiri, nor at the sound with a parallel twin. It would find it difficult to differentiate it from its own sibling the 390 on the roads thou! The Swing arm, the forks and most probably the dash would be the same as a 390!

We already have the KTM 390 at 3 lacs on road! Should have a KTM 790 at 6 lacs on road and a KTM 1290 at 9 lac on road. It would kill the other bikes for the enthusiasts!

Received this on WhatsApp, one of the biking group. Pretty decent specs, but rumour mill says 9 lakhs OTR which is ok ok pricing.

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

Unlike its younger siblings, 790 might be a full import, hence such huge difference in price. Good part is that quality might be few notches about, but spares might be quiet expensive too.

Other bikes with inline-4 are very close in price, but this might be more optimal for our streets considering its size and weight.

Not to mention it looks just like another 390 on the roads! This could be a big plus for those who want to blend in with the traffic.

Could be its biggest negative too!

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

This bike comes loaded with lot of top specs and the competitors are no way closer on that front (though Triumph has the Street Triple with similar specs coming at a huge cost). So I believe even 9L OTR is a very good pricing (assuming that will be the approximate price). Over and above the features it is having, power-weight ratio , handling, etc., are icing on the cake. In the Indian context, being not an I4 may be a deal breaker for a few section of people. Other wise it is an overall excellent package which has a great potential to upset other bikes in the mid-level category.

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

Make it in India and price it at par/slightly above the Ninja 650. Its not impossible.

Else the Howl of an Inline 3 (Street Triple) and the Growl of an inline 4 (Z900, GSX-S750) would always be something that a Twin wouldn't be able to match (the Ducati's included).

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

Oops, at that suggested price point this indeed is expensive. I was more inclined to think that KTM would play around the 6/6.5 mark. Anyhow, I truly love this thing but 9 big ones are a lot of big ones. Aah, the wait continues!!
Also, for anyone who thinks an inline 3 or 4 would be a better bet just because of the engine configuration is mistaken. As far as riding fun goes this 790 is superior to anything out there in its class barring none.
There are better made products in the class, there are better engineered products in the class and there are even faster products. But none of them is as lively and as exciting to ride as this KTM. This is what the devil rides when his 1290R is at the workshop.

You clearly havent heard the proper bark of a Ducati V-twin. I agree though that a parallel twin can never sound as exciting as inline-3/4 or V-twin/V-4.
