Absolute bummer. I know at least half a dozen people waiting with bated breath for its launch. 169 kgs and 86nm torque? move over MT09, there's a new hooligan in town.

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

Ndtv is reporting that the business oking has started unofficially at 30k, interesting if indeed true, but then there is smoke if there is fire.

CKD means I am guessing atleast 6.5 lacs to 7 lacs ex showroom, which will be an interesting position, lets see how customers react. This bike would be another rocket though.

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

I visited Baner KTM showroom today. The sales guy confirms Duke 790 launch in Feb-March of next year and deliveries to start around April-May. The media blitz should start in Jan itself.

Per him, the ex-showroom will be around 7 lakhs and Pune OTR should be just shade over 8lakh. They are currently not accepting bookings butwill start as soon as company announces the launch.
He also said they will have some special launch offers.

Better than a Triumph Street Triple R? Motorcycle.com thinks so!

Seems like the early specimens have started arriving on our shores

While it's hard to comment on the authenticity of this news, lets hope the launch is nearing.
I really wish to see this bike made available here in India.

Disappointed with the looks! It is very similar to the 390, and if it is going to compete with Z900 it is going to lose out. The Z900 exhibits lot of oomph, character and massive road presence!

@Mafioso ~ I can assure you forget z900 no other thing on 2 wheels in this middle weight category can match the excitement ,fun to ride character and pure adrenaline as the 790. There are no exceptions to this.A bike for all seasons this, track, road, twisties you name it and it will do it and on every occasion leave you grinning.
A z900 as good as it is as a replacement for the z800, the 790 takes the joy of riding to a whole new level.
I have said it earlier, this is what the Devil rides when his Super duke is out for service.

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

Unfortunately in india, we are still stuck with things like engine configurations to announce our arrival, as opposed to buying a bike that suits our needs.

At that price point, almost everyone is going to veer towards an inline 4 experience.

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

Its good to see KTM taking the fight to the backyard of Kawasaki and Triumph in India. If priced less than its Japanese rivals, it might be another winner for Bajaj-KTM partnership.

Oh and by the way, the exhaust is so high and close to the pillion it will be safe to tell the girlfriend to take the cab instead.

Re: KTM teases Duke 790 prototype at the EICMA 2016

Im hearing of ex showroom pricing between Rs 6.8 - 7 Lakhs and some fellow riders in WhatsApp groups are making bookings with a deposit amount of Rs 30,000. I hear a lot of different opinions on the potential audience. Some are worried that "squids" are going to buy them in droves. Some buyers are going to be current owners of the Duke 790's chief competition who are sensible enough to not restrict their garage to motorcycles based on cylinder counts.

At the end of the day, as Indian motorcycling enthusiasts, we all win.

All the rich squids will buy the Hayabusa and nothing else.

All the poor squids will continue to buy the Duke 390 or cheaper variants.

I think only an informed buyer will venture towards the Duke 790. But even then, considering a lot of "show" is required where the go is also present, expect the i4's and the i3's to give a really tough fight.

Unfortunately in India, KTM does not mean or sound premium. Kawasaki and Triumph do in droves (in the naked SS category).
