re: Kawasaki Z900 unveiled. EDIT: Launched at Rs 9 lakhs (with accessories) and 7.68 lakhs (without)

The Z800 was the best VFM bike when it was launched. Prices under 8 lakhs, it offered more horsepower than any other motorcycle available - Street Triple, CBR650F etc. With the revised prices of the Z800 now touching ~9.8 lakhs OTR Mumbai, I am sure the Z900 will easily touch around 11.5-12 lakhs OTR Mumbai.

If you are looking for VFM , I would suggest book the Z800 while they are clearing stocks or offering discounts. I still feel the Z800 looks much more meaner and better than the Z900.

I am not sure what source you are looking at. Currently, the Z1000 is almost Rs 13 Lakhs Ex showroom Delhi today.

And a little lesser at Pune for obvious reasons.

Cheers,

Ok. Thank you for correcting me.
I think the prices have gone up. Last I remember, Z1000 was much lesser.
I will admit though that I have not been keeping a tab on the latest prices of Kawi bikes.

Thank you again.

I really hope this isn't the case. Z900 has been priced quite close to the Z800 in many markets. Recently they launched in Indonesia with only a 6% increase. Z800 - IDR 212 Million; Z900 - IDR 225 Million. Fingers crossed. http://kawasaki-motor.co.id/

First ride reports for the Z900 have started to come in:
1. Cycle World
2. Bike Social
3. Visordown

I feel the competition is a lot stronger this time around for Kawasaki, the Suzuki GSX-S750 and MT-09 offer a more electronic safety nets and are priced too close to the Z.

Cheers

Rumour: Kawasaki to launch Z900 in India on March 25th

According to media reports, Kawasaki is likely to launch the Z900 in India on March 25, 2017. The company had unveiled the bike at the EICMA show in Milan last year and has already been launched in international markets.

Kawasaki Z900 unveiled. EDIT: Launched at Rs 9 lakhs (with accessories) and 7.68 lakhs (without)-2017kawasakiz900ab9t1077.jpg

The Z900 replaces the Z800 in the company's model line-up. The bike measures 2,070 mm in length, 820 mm in width and has an overall height of 1,064 mm. It has a wheelbase measuring 1,450 mm and a ground clearance of 130 mm. The Z900 uses the trellis frame with a 17-litre fuel tank and is claimed to be lighter than its predecessor.

The bike is powered by a 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four valves per cylinder, inline-four engine that produces around 123 BHP - 12 BHP more than the outgoing Z800. This engine is derived from the Z1000's unit, but has a smaller bore and is mated to a 6-speed transmission sending power to the rear wheel via a chain drive.

Suspension duties are managed by an adjustable 41 mm inverted fork with rebound damping and spring preload at the front and a horizontal back-link, stepless rebound damping, adjustable spring preload mono-shock at the rear. The Z900 rides on 17-inch wheels shod with 120/70 and 180/55 section tyres at the front and rear respectively. The bike comes equipped with dual 300 mm petal-type disc brake with four-piston calipers and ABS on the front wheel and single 250 mm petal-type disc brake with single-piston caliper and ABS on the rear wheel.

As much as I want this to be true, I cant find any record of an import of the Z900

Will they just release it without any sort of testing, showcasing, certification?

Hey Ashroy_6,

With the launch of new Kawasaki line-up just around the corner, Z900 would be a better buy in comparison to Z800 as the latter one would be shutting down globally.

But, I would suggest you to wait till the new Street Triple is launched which should be cheaper than Z900.

Triumph is targeting to get-in the new line-up by Q3 - Q4 this year as is rumored.

If you cannot wait so long, then you may try the existing Street Triple which may have stock clearance discounts.

Cheers,
Amey

I doubt if the 2017 Triumph Street Triple will be cheaper than the Kawasaki Z900. Here in the UK they are priced at £ 8900, £ 9900 and £ 8249 respectively for Street Triple R, Street Triple RS and Z900.
The Street Triple RS is the one with all bells and whistles.

The Street Triple RS should be priced more than the Z900 for sure, but the Street will have the complete safety pack of ABS, traction control, rider modes and will be much lighter than the Z too which as a package will be surely worth the extra money. HP and torque wise both are evenly matched.

Z900 is equipped only with ABS which is a negative for me in comparison.

Cheers

You're correct, the Street Triple even in the S trim beats the Z900 when it comes to all electronic safety aids and it sports that lovely TFT dashboard. But someone may prefer the purity and thrill and safety net of a well controlled right wrist.

Despite the Z900 hundred losing quite a bit of weight it still is significantly heavier that the STriple S which weighs in an incredible 166 KGS. The Z900 weighs 210 kilos.

Oh yes, the purists and the professionals

Would love to see their faces and hear their comments after they take a fall which could have been prevented by ABS and/or traction control

Everyone makes mistakes, everyone, period. If there is an option in these high powered motorcycles which may make the difference between staying on the bike or taking a fall, why not take that safety net? I don't see how it would make anyone less of a motorcyclist by using the advantages of technology.

Another angle - personal preference between a triple, in-line four and the holy grail budget.

Cheers
