Anyways - here's the weekend story in a single image. Will post in detail within a couple of days -

Photologue Part 1 - Day Ride to Kodai.

This was a quick plan. I was supposed to have guests over for the weekend, and they cancelled at the last moment. Messaged friends 'rbp' and 'ebmrajesh' to check if they are free and we quickly decided upon a plan to ride to Kodai and back.


Met up with rbp at 4AM near Hebbal, Rajesh at 4:45 AM near Silk Board and started the ride. By sunrise we had already covered good distance - crossed Krishnagiri and was nearing Dharmapuri.


Breakfast + fuel break at Dharmapuri.


Happy faces after the fast paced morning run -


Back on the roads post breakfast -


Boring, yet beautiful highways of TN -


Stop to avoid sleepiness. The roads were arrow straight without much traffic. By 9:30 AM, we were already nearing Dindigul.


Time for a coffee break -

Good old two lane TN highways welcome us -


But soon we realize that none of the signboards read Kodaikanal and all were hinting at Palani and Coimbatore. We were on the wrong road.


Lost a lot of time due to this wrong move! Took the Oddanchatram - Sempatty road to connect back to the main Theni highway.


Finally by noon, we start the Kodai ghat climb -


And immediately beautiful mountains and clouds welcome us -

But with a lot of weekend traffic.


The roads open up once we get past the initial few struggling cars -

This bus came at the maximum possible speeds almost half into our lane! Good scare, but thankfully wasn't leaned into the corner early.


Took it easy for sometime as the roads were narrow, and had a lot of monkeys running around for food. People feed them despite warnings from authorities, so they are not scared of vehicles.


Just about enough width for a bus at places -


But soon the roads open up enough to enjoy the corners.

Nearing the town. Roads were average, with a lot of traffic past this point.

And a huge crowd fighting for place to stand and watch. We didn't bother stopping!


Traffic block on top, but almost nothing compared to what we faced at Ooty few months back -

Photologue Part 2 - Day Ride to Kodai

Heading downtown - we came across this viewpoint of the town. Had to pull out the mobile cams for these scenes -

rbp would lead most of the return leg. Those Baja auxlights made sure his confidence level was far more than the other two of us -


Why I don't use the helmet top mount much - it makes even the mighty Fortuner look small from that angle.


Fast downhill run with some good slopes.


And scenic vistas as always.


Little bit of bad roads + traffic -


Though traffic was much lesser downhill. Everyone was just heading up for the long weekend -


Soon we run into thick fog -


Was a beauty to watch, though not much evident in the pics -


Increasing the pace once the fog cover is clear -


Only to be greeted by rain -


Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres were giving a lot more confidence than the old Dunlops.

Reached home by 10:50 PM after covering a distance of almost 1015 kms, making this the second longest day run with the Versys. However, Sunday had other plans, and needed to wake up again at 4:30 AM for the next (small) ride.

Sunday was spent riding with the apartment group - the first biking ride for our apartment. Didn't have much expectations, but it turned out pretty decent, specially for a first attempt. We had a couple of CBR250s, four Enfields and a Dominar for the ride - and most of them had riding gears. Good start!

The ride was a short one - Destination: Torino's Cafe, Kolar.

Congrats on the new boot ! Do post a feedback after using it for some time - i am very curious on how Adventure boots compare to Sport Riding boots like (A* SMX-6 or TCX SP-Master).

BTW Forma seems to have some really good stuff for cheap.
