Re: Versys 650: Horrible experience with Kawasaki & its dealers

Its a similar scenario with 'common' luxury cars like Mercs and BMWs. While the companies have officially set up shop in India, spare parts are often imported on a per case basis leading to huge waiting times. Owners often import the spares and get them fixed and it works out much cheaper and its often a quick and painless process in a case where you just have to swap and replace a part and there are no repairs involved

I am wondering how so many cracks can develop in 3,000 kms. This part according to my vehicle history has been changed in New Delhi by ASC M/s Bagga Auto Link Kirtinagar.

So I finally picked my bike on 23 Feb 2017. I somehow feel the bike is not one hundred percent but will ride and check. I have also spoken to the Khivraj Kawasaki Technician that I would be getting it checked every 500-700 Kms.

I shall keep you all updated with the developments. Keeping my fingers crossed.

What is the 'cylinder engine' component mentioned in the job card?

I am positive that the cracks developed here are because of over torquing the mounting bolts as the failure seems to originate from around the mounting holes. I might be wrong though

Congrats Prado for picking up the bike. So how many kms munched since you picked it up on Feb 23rd? And, what is your feeling about the bike's behavior, is it satisfactory?

Also, we need a picture of the man and the beast here

Re: Versys 650: Horrible experience with Kawasaki & its dealers

Hi Guys,

I am planning to pick the Versys 650 soon, but going through this thread, I am little worried. Is this one off instance on Versys or any other person is facing issues like this. With the split from Bajaj, the company owned SVC should provide better customer experience but horror stories like this wants me to check again before taking the plunge as this will be my only bike which I will use extensively for daily commuting as well as long distance touring.

Threads from CD and Mobike have certainly inspired me to pick the Versys.

I don't ride a Versys, so I won't comment on the Versys itself. However if you are going to buy a big bike, please be ready to deal with situations like these (albeit not this bad). Like mentioned through this thread, parts are never in stock and you will have to have the patience to wait for what might be considered even basic parts.

If that is ok by you, then great. If you don't think you can handle this situation - stay far away from this segment. There is a nice thread on things to consider before buying a big bike - you could check it out.

Don't bet on it. Kawasaki's customer service for it's CBU bikes has been barely decent till now, I don't see why it would improve with the inclusion of smaller (and cheaper) bikes.

Bike has been fine now for 1300 kms. Got it checked once at 750kms. Guess will get it opened again at about 3000kms and check the hub if any cracks or anything have developed or if the clutch plates have worn out unnaturally. Here's a picture from my weekend ride to Kemmangundi and Mullayangiri .

I completely agree with what VellVector says that when they don't care for CBU customers, don't expect them to give better service to the cheaper bike customers. The attitude of guys at Kawasaki are 'We make the best bikes and so if there's a problem then it is with you and never with our bikes'. We don't need to listen to you nor will we check if there is a real issue. We don't mind risking your life by trying temporary fixes and if it still doesn't work and you manage to stay alive then we shall check the bike as per our manual. So I would suggest you to speak to other superbike owners having bikes from different companies and listen to what they have to say about customer service. If you feel it's all the same, then take a call.

Sometimes I feel had I known Kawasaki has such attitude then I would have picked up a Benelli instead as they were offering 4 years unlimited kms warranty plan and I'm sure I would have used the bike to its fullest by the time I completed 4 years

I had been to the Kawasaki Kasturba Road SVC in Bangalore to get the clutch assembly opened and checked (2700 kms since last repair/replacement of parts) list attached, as I wanted Peace of Mind and to my dismay the agony doesn't seem to end. Again one (innermost towards the hub) of the 6 clutch plates is worn out very bad and surprise surprise all the other 5 clutch plates are in pristine condition. The hub has NORMAL (according to the SVC technician) cracks but abnormal steps towards the inner side. I just don't see an end to this agony. After seeing the opened bike, the main guy Bhanu got into an offensive mode and started speaking a little rude for which my question was if he can tell me if there is a problem or there isn't a problem and if there isn't then fix the bike back and hand it over and I shall come back and talk to them if I ever have an accident and come out of it alive else I would have my guys to fight against them if I'm dead. He also made me ride another bike to I see if there was anything wrong with the way I ride, so I asked him to record the whole ride(which he didn't do). This investment of 8 lakhs on the machine plus another 1.5 lakhs of investment on the accessories has become nothing but a dead body on my shoulders. Sadly.

Pathetic!! Absolutely Pathetic.. I have a suggestion. Why not try some of the other garages to have this looked into and fixed? There are a few decent ones out there.. when it comes to specialised work, i wouldnt trust the "authorised guys" ever. Download the service manual too.

Khivraj is on it's way out of Kawasaki, they are only running the service center till the new dealer gets their setup up and running. They have always been a reasonably lame service center. And now that they are on their way out, they really don't care too much. Same thing applies to the people working there.

I would advise you to either wait till the new Kawasaki service center opens or take you bike to Xtorque or similar to get it fixed properly.

Nope.. Same guy Bhanu is going to be in the new service center. Ride venture or whatever. Tough luck finding a expert technician from Kawasaki in Bangalore.

Interesting. I was given to understand that he was being shown the door. He's been good with my bike, so personally I don't have any issue. Have heard a lot of grumbling about him from other owners though.

I am not sure about this, but I have seen a few imported bikes getting overhauled at Indimotard, Whitefield.

Let me not talk about XTorque. I have been to them just once and that was my last. Be it Khivraj or RideVenture, as I know Bhanu is gonna stay with Kawasaki. These Kawasaki guys would be more than happy if I take the bike to other mechanic cos then they can get off their responsibility and push the bike out of warranty. I don't think this time I am going to let these guys off so easily.
