Repainting SBK - Risky?

Hey Guys,

Planning on getting my Ninja repainted. I have noticed the common thought process is that a repainted SBK must have been in an accident. I'm kinda worried about this.

how do i go about proving to someone that the bike was repainted purely for aesthetic purposes. The current paintjob on my bike is from the 90's. very primitive. Im planning a uniform dark metallic green.

Wondering if u guys have had this issue in the past and how did you guys go about handling it?

Another thing - do any of you bbay guys know how much repainting costs?? my mechanic says 10-12 K. for some reason i always remembered it to be in the 5-6K region. ANy body with experience in these matters?

Take a picture of the bike before the painting and show it when you want to sell it. Infact, take the pics at the paint shop itself. Repainting doesnt mean a damaged vehicle. Smarter ones will check the body for any signs of work.

thanks Harish. Good point. I realise the moment I write repainted ill lose all the skeptics - but the smarter ones should figure the difference. Guess this is a risk worth taking.

srikant: you ninja is an early 90's bike, only a fool would want to believe that the bike has never been painted even if you do not go in for your paint job.

btw, how about the two-tone kawasaki blue, would help in jazzing up the 90 s look a little, unless you want to maintain the old school standards.
paint job fom zubin at bandra shoulkd be in the region of 10k.

dont forget to use good quality of paint and lot of layers of Lacquer. remember you are riding a superbike and the engine does heat up a lot and hence the sides and lower part of the fairing gets very hot and hence the quality of paint should be top notch.
getting it all done in 10K doesnt seem to be possible.

The quote i got from AC market was in the 11-13 K region for what he called 'high quality' paint.

Manson - dont know about the two tone blue - I wanna stick with the standard green. More on the dark metallic green look.

Will check with Zubin on the options he has.

I spend in the range of 10-12 for painting my YPVS [Tank, Side panel, Quater fairing; Mudgaurd]; it does cost that much if you are planning to do a good job. This cost woulod not include other restoring things like;decals; pin striping if any; clear the tank rust; repairing /plastic weilding any panels that are cracked or broken.

If done well it is worth it

PS: try not to sway away from OEM color scheme that came for the model
