SWM Motorcycles planning to enter India through MotoRoyale. EDIT: Superdual launched @ Rs. 6.8 lakhs

SWM Motorcycles is reportedly planning to enter the Indian two-wheeler market in the near future. The Milan-based manufacturer is expected to sell its range of bikes in India through the MotoRoyale chain. MotoRoyale is a venture under the Kinetic Group which is also responsible for all Indian operations of the MV Augusta brand.

SWM Motorcycles is located in Varese, Milan. Its production facility is right next to the MV August plant. The company started operations in 1971 and produced various Enduro, Motocross and off-road bikes. However, the firm went into liquidation in 1984, thus ceasing all production and operations. However, SWM Motorcycles was resurrected in 2014 after China-based Shineray Group decided to fund the motorcycle manufacturer.

Soon after its revival, SWM Motorcycles showcased six products at the 2014 EICMA show in Milan. The company is now spreading its operations in various countries, India being one of them.

The first SWM Motorcycle to launch in India will likely be the SuperDual, which is based on the Husqvarna TE630. It is essentially an adventure motorcycle which is powered by a 600cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that is rated at 56 BHP and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Suspension duties are handled by Fast Ace USD (upside down) forks with rebound damping adjustment at the front and a Sachs monoshock with preload, compression and rebound adjustment at the rear. The braking setup includes 300 mm and 220 mm discs at the front and rear, respectively.

MotoRoyale is expected to bring the SWM Motorcycles in India through the CKD route and will use its existing infrastructure to assemble the bikes locally.

Yet another dream- a vision- of an adventure bike in that 400 to 600 category that can be brought to the masses.
Reasonable price and reasonable power- with the ability to cruise across the country. An opportunity so wasted by RE and waters that KTM refuses to tread into. SOmeone needs to realise that they need an iconic bike- the RX100 and RD350 of the old, the Shogun, the CD100- just bring out a production that shows your company has the talent to get bike that can cross over to Bihar from Bom Dila, and Bandra to Kalina at peak traffic hours... without breaking down.
So we wait to see what the 2010 Husky engine that they guys have picked up brings to India.

Oxymoron: Masses don't aspire to buy Adventure bikes.. not in India.

How reliable will these bikes be? There's no point in launching adventure tourers if you cannot provide a robust service network. Alternatively, make your bike robust enough that it doesn't require an elaborate service network. But, SWM being Italian, and based on another Italian, i doubt reliability is the keyword here.

Something even the big brands in the industry are unable to provide, since the number of these vehicles they manage to sell is very less to afford a wide service network.

I don't think an unknown newcomer like SWM with a limited product portfolio will be able to establish themselves.

This is one handsome looking looking adventure motorcycle. Although I wonder how many serious tourers will consider this motorcycle from a relatively unknown brand with minimal service support. On the other hand, people who stick to city roads or the occasional highway ride near major cities probably won't be interested in an adventure bike.

Bumping up this thread since I haven't heard much news about this bike since the initial news reports in May. Is the bike still launching in India?

No problem, there are a few like you and me, someone just bumped the KTM390 ADV thread too...

now suddenly EICMA 2017, and everyone in India is following as if those bikes will reach here by Christmas, and then the Feb AutoExpo in Delhi... as if those bikes will also make it to the roads.

Hero showed off some bikes- Hastur? is that the right name? and then it vanished...

SO- glad you bumped this thread, I got to blow some steam off at non-appearing bikes

I am exactly on the same boat as you! Last year I thought 2017 is the year but I'm frustrated to put it mildly.

BMW G310 GS next year end, KTM ADV 390 no idea, SWM no idea.

Launched at 6.8lacs. https://www.autocarindia.com/bike-ne...80-lakh-410039

Quote:
In terms of competition, the SWM Superdual T takes on the*Suzuki V-Strom 650XT (Rs 7.46 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi)*and the Kawasaki Versys 650 (Rs 6.69 lakh, ex-showroom, India)
At this price, it makes the Versys look like a steal.

It makes the slightly more expensive Suzy also look like a steal. Way too high for a single that is made in China. Was expecting a sub 6l price. I heard they have just one svc currently functional.

Not right I think.

SWM might have been revived with Chinese funding, but the bike is built in the old Husky factory in Italy. Even the engine is a modernised version of an old Husky single.
