Yes. That is correct that I rode the Speed Tripple and Z800 back to back and felt Z800 a much easier and almost similar powered bike (Speed feels wee bit more powerful but, not a substantial difference)

My previous post was to comparing the Street Tripple vs. Z800 (Now it's the Street Tripple 765 vs. Z900)

Cross connections of understanding the posts

My point too

Correct. I just happened to ride the Speed and Z800 back to back and casually compared them. Z1000 is the right motorcycle for a proper comparison

It was overal noise, intake, exhaust, drive train, tire, all put together at about 60 kmph.

Check part number printed on the parts, its not that difficult. But this time around it has got through with the full specs.

Powerdrift has just released a teaser image of the street triple review. Sadly they have tested the bike with the arrow exhaust. We won't be able to hear the stock exhaust. The sound from the overdrive review wasn't that clear.

Haven't seen the PD teaser, but didn't Triumph stop selling Arrows as their official accessory sometime back? Asking this because my brother wanted to put an Arrow slip-on on his Daytona about a year or so back and the dealership had stated that they've stopped selling that.

They were teaser images. I saw em on Instagram. I'm not sure if they stopped not I'm sure they have it as an accessory for the new Street Triple. There were two bikes during the Delhi launch event and one of the bikes, a black one, had an arrow slip on. Therefore it must be an official accessory for the bike.

The Bangalore dealership had stopped selling it due to a crackdown on noise pollution by the traffic police.
They also put the stock exhaust back on their test ride bike during this time

I was told by the sales guy @Triumph Chennai, that they have also stopped selling the current Speed Triple and Daytona 675. They are to be replaced by newer models.

Re: Triumph Street Triple 765 - Launched at Rs. 8.50 lakh

I was looking at the gear ratio details of both z900 and the new Street Triple. The reason for highlighting this is to get a feel of how these two machines are going to behave.

Street Triple Vs Z900 (Gear Ratio - Inclusive of Primary and Final drive ratio)
1st Gear: 13.97 Vs 12.9
2nd Gear: 10.39 Vs 9.8
3rd Gear: 8.4 Vs 7.9
4th Gear: 7.2 Vs 6.7
5th Gear: 6.61 Vs 5.8
6th Gear: 6.1 Vs 4.9

Street triple has shorter gearing compared to Z900. Huge difference in the gear ratio for the 6th Gear.

Lets see how the above gear ratios translate to Kmph for every 1000 RPM
Street Triple Vs Z900 (KMPH/1000 RPM)
1st Gear: 8.5 Vs 9.2
2nd Gear:11.5 Vs 12.1
3rd Gear: 14.3 Vs 15.1
4th Gear: 16.6 Vs 17.7
5th Gear: 18.0 Vs 20.4
6th Gear: 19.7 Vs 24.0

Soure: gearingcommander.com and ST owner's manual

Again Huge difference in the higher gears. For example, at 100 kmph, the Street triple's engine RPM will be roughly around 5100 RPM and the Z900's will be around 4200 RPM in the top gear. As I said before, one must be bustling like an energetic teenager and the other one must be doing things much calmer like a more matured adult

Another interesting information I read from the new Street Triple's owner manual is that 91 RON is the minimum recommended fuel grade. Any details for the Z900 ? I know that 95 RON was the recommended one for Z800.

Excellent post. . But I'd like to point out two more figures.

Power - 111hp@11,500 rpm v/s 124@6000 rpm of the Z900.
Torque - 73Nm@9400rpm v/s ‎98.6 NM @ 7700 rpm‎ of the Z900.

At 5100 rpm, the energetic teenager is still 4300rpm short of accessing all of its 73Nm of torque. But the Z at 4200 rpm is only 3500 rpm short of its peak torque which is way higher at 98.6Nm as well.

Only the actual dyno graphs can confirm, but I suspect the Z might still be producing a lot power and torque than the Triple 765, even though it's at lower revs. One is geared to respond faster, while the other is capable of just powering it out due to the displacement advantage.

But yes- another important number to consider is the weight. This one will go down to the wire, and its all good for us consumers.

I guess the peak power of the z900 is 125ps@9500rpm.

I guess the bikes are a bit evenly matched here too.

It is better for any vehicle to reach the peak torque earlier as attaining the peak torque will help the bike accelerate faster. Thus the Z scores its points here. But the peak power is always better to be attained late in the rpm band which makes the vehicle fun to drive as the power band is widespread. The street steals the points here although it is less on power.

Once in a while it will be fun to push the bike through its gears and getting the power till 11500rpm makes the street a hell of a fun machine.

Engine - 765cc v/s 948cc
Compression Ratio - Sensitive 12.65:1 v/s more practical 11.8:1 of the Z900

Power - 111hp@11,500 rpm v/s 124@6000 rpm of the Z900.
Torque - 73Nm@9400rpm v/s ‎98.6 NM @ 7700 rpm‎ of the Z900.

Electronics and features -
Triumph gives traction control and switchable ride modes, whereas the Kawasaki has slipper clutch.

Price -
Z900 is priced at 9L with essential accessories included like radiator guard, bikini fairing, engine/gearbox protectors, frame sliders, fork sliders, tank pad, rear seat cowl, and power charging adapter. Estimated to cost around 75k extra.

So both seems to be priced at par. If Kawasaki is wise enough, they can introduce the variant without accessories now and match the pricing.
Looks like Kawasaki played it even better than I expected them to do. I thought they will match the STripple on prices.

But Kawasaki has gone ahead and launched the Z900 without accessories at 7.68L ex showroom, pan India.

82k less than the STripple on ex showroom prices. Expected on road price in Bangalore is around 9.35L as compared to around 11L for the STripple.

Game on then! Waiting for Triumph's response.

That is a very good pricing from Kawasaki. Is it partly due to GST coming into picture ?

Actually under gst the tax rates of bikes above 350-500 cc has increased. So ideally the prices of high end bikes have gone up by 25000-30000.

What kawasaki has done is that

1. No accessories with the bike now worth 50000-60000.
2. They have now successfully undermined trimph street triple 765 price by a good 1 lac.
3. This maybe an introductory price combined with the above 2 points to gain initial momentum in terms of sales.

This is an epic decision from Kawasaki. The margin so high between the new street now would definitely make the buyer think twice.

Moreover, with Kawasaki plant set-up at Chakan, Pune coming up would definitely strengthen all the strings and strategies put forward by Kawasaki India.

Cheers,
Amey
